GREENVILLE — Krystle Sue Weaver’s homicide trial is set to start Tuesday morning before Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge John C. Reed.
There will be a few days of jury selection before testimony begins in the Greenville stabbing case against Ms. Weaver, 22, Fowler, Ohio, Mercer County District Attorney Robert G. Kochems said.
The trial has been delayed twice at the request of her attorney, Stephen Misko of Butler, who needed more time to prepare and had scheduling conflicts.
Ms. Weaver is accused of fatally stabbing Thomas Lorigan, 44, of 183 Ray Road, Greene Township, and seriously injuring his daughter, Heather Turk, 22, on May 20, 2008, outside Ms. Turk’s former apartment at 94 Clinton St.
Police have said Ms. Weaver was with her boyfriend, Ronald Victor Machado, 21, Jamestown, that night, waiting inside the apartment for Ms. Turk.
The couple had once lived with her.
Lorigan had been watching Ms. Turk’s two young children and brought Ms. Turk and the kids home.
They tried to turn on the lights but Ms. Weaver and Machado unscrewed the light bulbs, police said.
That’s when the father and daughter were attacked by the pair with knives, leaving the children unharmed.
Ms. Weaver and Machado were arrested May 22 in Trumbull County.
In court documents, Machado told police he and Ms. Weaver both stabbed Ms. Turk and Lorigan. Machado hanged himself May 24 in his cell at Trumbull County Jail, Warren, while awaiting extradition to Mercer County.
Ms. Weaver has told police she was at the apartment and she and Machado stole items that belonged to them when they lived there, but Machado was the only one who did the stabbing.
Authorities haven’t disclosed a motive for the crime.
Ms. Weaver is being held without bond in Mercer County Jail. She’s charged with homicide, attempted homicide, conspiracy to commit homicide, aggravated assault, burglary and two counts of robbery.
Ms. Turk spent months in the hospital recovering from her head wounds and learning how to walk, talk and do things for herself, her grandmother, Marilyn Allen of Sugar Grove Township, has said.
She’s been recovering with Mrs. Allen since being released from the hospital in December.
Ms. Turk was dealt a second tragedy early this year when her mother, Brenda Agbley, 40, formerly of Greenville, was strangled Jan. 23 in her Forest Hills, Pa., home by her husband, Jude Agbley, 35, police allege.
The Agbleys got married in August 2008 and Agbley is a Ghanian national.
He’s being held without bond in Allegheny County Jail, awaiting a homicide trial.
