Roundup: Reynolds, Mercer, Hickory, Sharpsville teams win
ä Reynolds 9, Kennedy Catholic 0 — At Hermitage, pitcher Paige Baker baffled the host Lady Golden Eagles. Baker (2-2) tossed a complete-game 2-hitter, whiffing 8 and walking 4. She helped herself by singling and tripling.
Also for coach Wilbur Juranovich, Autumn Babcock banged 3 doubles, Kristen Shearer singled twice and doubled, and Madison Rhoades singled and doubled for the Lady Raiders (5-1, 5-4). -
Roundup: Sharon rallies to beat WM; Hickory softball edges Hounds
After splitting a pair of recent 4-3 decisions, an early 6-0 deficit did not deter Sharon High’s baseball team.
Scoring 9 runs in its final 3 at-bats Monday afternoon, the host Tigers toppled West Middlesex, 9-7, at Johnny Pepe Field in a Region 2-AA backyard rivalry. -
Hickory boys, GC girls capture team titles at City of Hermitage Invitational
Previously, Jon Yohman trained in the finished basement of his family’s home. That makes sense, because the Wilmington High senior thrower has been burying opponents thus far this spring.
During Saturday’s 14th annual City of Hermitage Track & Field Invitational, Yohman’s numbers were attention-grabbing, as in
“Yo, Man!” -
HIGH SCHOOL SPRING SPORTS ROUNDUP: Hickory, Grove City netters win
Hickory edged Kennedy Catholic, 3-2, in tennis to remain unbeaten on the season Wednesday at the Hickory High courts in Hermitage.
In another local tennis match, Grove City topped Greenville, 4-1.

ä Sharon 6, Lakeview 5 — At Wengler Field, Mallory Torr tattooed a 2-run double in the home half of the 6th stanza, staking Sharon to the win.
Winning Lady Tigers’ twirler Gabby Gadola garnered a complete-game performance, fanning 5, walking only 1 and scattering 10 hits. -
Hickory hires Evans as boys basketball coach
Geoff Evans was a standout for some of the best basketball teams in Hickory High’s hardwood history.
School officials hope Evans can transfer that magic to his new job as boys’ head coach. School board member Chris Ruffo said Evans remains the all-time leading scorer in Hickory history. -

The inaugural West Middlesex Big Reds girls’ and boys’ track & field invitational is set for Friday. Field events will begin 3:30 p.m.; track events at 3:45.
Meet director Ed Pikna announced the field will include competitors from: Allegheny-Clarion Valley, Brookfield, Farrell, George Junior Republic, Greenville, Kennedy Catholic, Lakeview, Laurel, Mercer, Sharon, Sharpsville, Wilmington and West Middlesex. -

Roundup: Wilmington's Yohman Field MVP at Union Invitational
Wilmington High senior standout Jon Yohman was named the Field MVP on Saturday at the Union Boys Invitational in New Castle while the Lakeview Sailors captured the team title.
Lakeview captured the team crown with 78 points, followed by New Castle (73), Neshannock (46), Wilmington (41.5), Shenango (36), Summit Academy (23.5), Union Area (20), Moniteau (11), Laurel (4) and Cornell (4). -
Roundup: WM girls capture Union Track Invitational
UNION TWP. — Led by MVPs Rachel DeMaria and Kristen White, West Middlesex High girls track & field team won the 10-team Union Invitational championship Friday afternoon.
The Ms. Reds accumulated 133èpoints to outdistance runner-up Wilmington (120). Lakeview (82è), Mohawk (53), Neshannock (50), Shenango (45), Moniteau (25), New Castle (22), Laurel (21) and Union Area (6) completed the team standings. - More Sports Headlines
