Six other games, 5 being District 10 region battles, were on the schedule Friday night.
In Region 1-A, Farrell picked up a must-win decision against Lakeview, 28-6 and Mercer suffered a 39-21 loss to Conneaut in Crawford County.
In Region 3-AA, Wilmington rolled past Reynolds, 35-0; Grove City trounced winless Saegertown, 55-15, and Greenville edged the Rockets, 19-13, in Titusville.
In the Buckeye State, the Brookfield Warriors improved to 7-0 with a 49-14 victory against Ashtabula Edgewood.
A pair of 1 p.m. kickoffs are on the slate today. Sharon (1-3, 1-4) battles Hickory (3-1, 4-1) at Hornet Stadium in a Region 3-AA clash and Kennedy Catholic hosts Union-Rimersburg of District 9. Both are 4-1.
The following were reported to The Herald:
ä Brookfield 49, Edgewood 14 — At Brookfield, the Warriors made the Homecoming crowd happy with a rout of the vistors from Ashtabula.
The powerful Warriors of coach Randy Clark moved to a perfect 7-0 on the campaign by building a 36-0 halftime lead and easily rolling in the second half. Edgewood is 4-3.
Ryan Mosora scored 4 TDs for Brookfield on runs of 20, 45 and 5 yards, while catching a pass from Jeremy Quinlan good for 69 yards. Mosora rushed for 220 yards on 10 carries, raising his season total to 1,232 yards.
Quinlan scored on a 62-yard burst and connected with Colin Harkulich on a 25-yard TD. Joe Clark also hit paydirt on a 1-yard run.
Edgwood’s TDs came in the final frame, both on runs of 12 and 5 yards by Riis Smith.
The Warriors are ranked No. 1 in their region and are certainly catching the eyes of football pollsters throughout the state of Ohio.
ä Wilmington 35, Reynolds 0 — At Transfer, the visiting Greyhounds (4-1, 5-1) of coach Terry Verrrelli turned in a dominating performance to maintain a share of the Region 3-AA lead.
Nick Pugh scored a pair of touchdowns on runs of 16 and 60 yards, while Tyler Donati hit paydirt on a 55-yard run for his 12th TD of the season. Donnie Watson scored on an 8-yard pass from Cody Llewellyn, while Alex Patton rolled into the end zone after a 26-yard sprint. Brandon Ryder was good on all 5 PAT kicks.
Offensively, Donati picked up 167 yards on 18 carries to a season total of 899. Wilmington picked up 331 yards rushing.
The Hounds Hammer defense was stifling, holding Reynolds (3-2, 4-2) to only 95 total yards and 6 first downs in pitching the shutout.
ä Conneaut 39, Mercer 21 — At Linesville, the Mercer Mustangs built a 21-19 halftime lead, but were shut out the entire 2nd half in the Region 1-A clash.
The 1st half was a real battle. For Mercer, quarterback Logan Clarke scored on a 1-yard run and connected with Evan Nan on a 20-yard TD aerial, while T.J. Peters hit paydirt on a 36-yard run. Three PAT kicks by Chase Hoffman helped stake the Mustangs (0-5, 1-5) to the thin margin at intermission.
But from there, thanks to a powerful running game that netted 440 yards, the final 2 quarters belonged to the host Eagles (1-3, 3-3).
Elijah Anderton scored 4 touchdowns in the contest for the winners on runs of 10, 19, 3 and 2 yards. Jon Onderko tallied on runs of 2 and 35 yards. Anderton accounted for 234 yards on 27 carries, while Onderko had 17 totes for 138 yards.
ä Farrell 28, Lakeview 6 — At Stoneboro, in a battle of playoff contenders, the Steelers of coach Jarrett Samuels prevailed.
The game was deadlocked at 6-6 after the 1st quarter, but the rest of the contest belonged to the visitors as the Steelers’ defense stiffened to shut out the Sailors the remainder of the contest.
Farrell forged ahead on an 11-yard TD pass from Joe Goudy to Marshawn Hyman, but the Sailors tied it at 6 on a 1-yard run by Nate Kokoski.
Farrell (2-2, 4-2) scored on a 22-yard aerial connection from Goudy to Austin Pickens, a 15-yard pass from Goudy to Alex Myers, and a 19-yard run by Dewayne Burns. Extra points were scored on a Malik Grahm run and Pickens PAT kick.
Burns led the Steelers’ attack with 100 yards on 18 carries.
Lakeview junior running back Blake Reddick rushed for 166 yards and surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season (1,159).
Lakeview fell to 3-1 and 4-2.
ä Greenville 19, Titusville 13 — At Carter Field, Titusville, the visiting Trojans of coach Brian Herrick notched a key Region 3-AA victory.
The Trojans (3-2, 3-3) rallied from behind twice and then broke a 13-13 tie in the 4th period on a 7-yard run by Luke Houpt. Tyler Fattman scored Greenville’s other 2 touchdowns on runs of 3 and 6 yards.
Ehrin Lee scored both Rockets’ TDs on runs of 1 and 3 yards.
Titusville is 1-4, 3-3.
ä Grove City 55, Saegertown 15 — At Saegertown, the visiting Eagles eased to the Region 3-AA win as Chad Williams went for 106 yards rushing, including scoring sprints of 5 and 48 yards.
Also for Grove City (4-1, 5-1), Foster Reznor stripped a 60-yard punt return and a 9-yard run from scrimmage, while Harold Price punched in a pair of scores from 1 and 7 yards. Jared Graham garnered 153 yards passing on only 3 completions, one of which was an 80-yarder to Williams.
Overall, the Grovers gobbled up 516 total yards against a Saegertown squad that reportedly has only 20 players in its program. The Panthers (0-5, 0-6) were led by James Taylor’s 10-tote, 68-yard rushing effort, which included a 40-yard scoring sprint.
