At E.J. McCluskey Gymnasium, Kristen Scurpa had 7 points, 6 kills and 25 assists in leading the Blue Darlings to a 25-16, 25-14, 25-9 sweep of the Lady Steelers (7-4).

Sharpsville: Paige Scurpa 6 kills; Megan Davis 8 points, 5 kills; Rachel D’Auria 6 kills; Alex Ferrera 12 points; Emily Anderson 8 kills; Madison Przicina 5 kills; Eugina Davies 7 points; Kristen Scurpa 7 points, 6 kills, 25 assists. ä West Middlesex 3, Reynolds 0 — At Transfer, the Ms. Reds improved to 8-2 in Region 1 and 9-3 overall with the 25-18, 25-15, 25-21 sweep of the Lady Raiders (3-9).

ä Grove City 3, Mercer 0 — At Grove City, the Lady Eagles posted a 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 sweep over the Lady M’s (7-7).

BOYS SOCCER

ä Mercer 10, West Middlesex 0 —
At West Middlesex, Mercer goalie Alan Rabold set a single-season school record with his 11th shutout, breaking the mark of 10 shared by Joel Solomon and Joel Pyle, as the Mustangs (7-0-1, 12-1-1) beat WM in a Region 1 matchup.

Trenton Fowler had 2 goals for Mercer, Will Juergens posted 1 goal and 3 assists, Matt Juergens registered 1 goal and 1 assist, Rabold, Nate Kroll, Adam Hogue, Alex Shaffer, Nate Breese and Chase Hoffman had goals, Zach Kroll was credited with 3 assists and Trevor Fowler had an assist.

ä Kennedy Catholic 4, Conneaut (Ohio) 0 — At Butala Stadium, Hermitage, Wednesday the host Golden Eagles (11-1-1) notched a pair of goals in each half.

Ethan Felmiller had a hat trick, while Erik Little drove home the other goal. Assists were by Mike Thomas, Little and Gerald Zachar. Galvin Cianci pitched the shutout in goal.

GIRLS SOCCER

ä Mercer 2, Girard 0 —
At Girard, Megan McKinney scored off an assist from Sarah Stevens with 5 minutes left in the match to seal the win as the Lady M’s (10-3-1) topped Girard.

Stevens scored in the 1st half for Mercer off an assist from Lexie Arkwright. Analise Whenry notched her 8th shutout of the season between the pipes for Mercer.

GIRLS TENNIS

ä Kennedy Catholic 5, Greenville 0 —
At Buhl Park, the Lady Golden Eagles closed out the regular season with a 10-4 record with a sweep of Greenville.

Singles: Kelsey George (KC) def. Jessica Burnett, 6-4, 6-2; Monica Bober (KC) def. Casslyn Holder, 6-2, 6-2; Rebekah Kish (KC) def. Amanda Dawes, 6-0, 6-0. Doubles: Avianna Danta-Stephanie Moore (KC) def. Kayla Reinhart-Cameron Leary, 7-6, 6-3; Alex Hudson-Abby Lenhart (KC) def. Brooke Marini-Jessica Fenton, 6-4, 6-0.

“I’d like to thank my seniors (Bober, George, Moore, Aliyah Kennedy, Meghan Boyd, Lanie O’Brien) for their contributions to the program,” said KC coach Frank Bober. “During their four years, they compiled a 51-5 league record with 3 Region 1 titles.”

  • Alaura Straka Playoffs: GC, Hounds win; Reynolds, Sharpsville softball advance

    The District 10 playoffs kicked off on Tuesday for 4 area baseball teams and 5 softball squads.
    In Class A softball, Reynolds edged West Middlesex, 5-4, in an 8-inning thriller while Sharpsville ousted Rocky Grove, 5-0. In Class AA, Northwestern beat Wilmington, 9-5, and Harbor Creek defeated Mercer, 4-3.

  • Hickory boys track Hickory boys edge WM for D-10 Class AA Track team title

    HARBORCREEK — Hickory High co-head coach Mark Slezak referenced the term “exponential” in explaining the four-fold heart-felt feeling of having a relay team qualify for the PIAA Championships.
    That sentiment seemed to summarize Mercer County’s performance during Saturday’s annual District 10 Class AA Track & Field Championships.

  • 5 area teams qualify for D-10 baseball playoffs

    Five area baseball teams have qualified for the District 10 playoffs — Grove City, Kennedy Catholic, Sharpsville, West Middlesex and Wilmington.
    In the Class A semifinals, Kennedy Catholic faces Cochranton at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Northwestern High School. Rocky Grove faces Eisenhower in the other semifinal game.

  • Clay Allen Hickory, WM boys to collide at D-10 AA Track & Field Championships

    For the 2nd time this week, a District 10 track & field team title could be decided by a pair of Mercer County contingents.
    Just as Hickory and Grove City girls contested the Class AAA crown Wednesday night, so, too, are the Hickory and West Middlesex boys anticipating vying for Saturday’s AA title.

  • Neal Engstrom Roundup: Reynolds baseball tops GC; Sharpsville, Wilmington softball teams win

    ä Reynolds 4, Grove City 1 — At Transfer, Neal Engstrom fired a complete-game 3-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks in lifting the Raiders (9-8) past the Eagles (14-6).
    Ryan Grace was tagged with the loss for Grove City. He struck out 6 batters, issued no walks and gave up 7 hits in going the distance.

  • Grove City girls GC girls 3-peat at District 10 Class AAA Track & Field Championships

    HARBORCREEK— Some athletes seeded 1st in four events would feel pressure. For Grove City High senior Daniel Jaskowak, it’s an opportunity for name recognition.
    “I kind’ve like it. It’s cool, because people know who you are,” related Jaskowak, who won 3 events during Wednesday’s District 10 Class AAA Track & Field Championships.

    If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Cliché though that is, it will be borne out today at the annual District 10 Class AAA Track & Field Championships.
    Hickory High girls — the defending PIAA Class AA titlists — will test the best from the biggest. And the Lady Hornets hope to give as good as they get from the 6-county competition.

  • Ryan Grace Roundup: Grace, GC beat Sharon, 4-0, in 5 innings

    With an impending storm blowing in above Johnny Pepe Field time was limited, so Ryan Grace greedily gobbled up putouts.
    Grove City High’s Grace gave up only 3 base hits, and the visiting Eagles eased to an abbreviated 4-0, 5-inning win over Sharon Friday afternoon.

  • Welcome home! HIGH SCHOOL SPRING SPORTS ROUNDUP: County track meet set Saturday at Hickory

    The annual Mercer County Track & Field Invitational will be held at Hickory High’s Hornet Stadium Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.
    Competing are all Mercer County teams, Class AAA and AA, as well as Slippery Rock. The meet serves as a warm-up to the District 10 championships set next week at Harbor Creek High.
