GIRLS BASKETBALL
ä Mercer 57, Reynolds 28 — At Mercer, Claire Creasy collected an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double to lead the Lady M’s (2-0). Also for Mercer, Cassie Flannery finished with a dozen points and Meg Frydrych 11.
Jill Siege scored a dozen points for Reynolds (1-3), which trailed only 17–15 at intermission, but was outscored 21-7 during the 3rd canto.
ä Sharpsville 53, Lakeview 38 — At Stoneboro, Kristen Scurpa scored a game-high 19 points to stake Sharpsville (3-0) to the road win. Also, Ashley Shuttleworth scored 10 for the Blue Darlings, who led 14-7 at the quarter, 29-17 by the break, and 38-29 through 3 periods.
Fawn Miller’s 13 points and Katie Watts’ 10 led Lakeview (0-4).
ä Greenville 50, West Middlesex 23 — At Greenville, senior Hannah Horne and sophomore Brooklyn Taylor both had double-doubles as the Lady Trojans (1-0, 3-1) earned the Region 2-AA victory.
Horne bucketed 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds while Taylor tickled the twine for 17 points and ripped down 10 boards.
Chelsea Stitt was the leading scorer for West Middlesex (0-1, 0-3) with 7 points.
ä Farrell 59, Commodore Perry 39 — At Sheakleyville, senior D’Asia Chambers went over the 1,000-point career mark as the Steelerettes (1-0, 3-1) notched a 20-point Region 1-A win over the Lady Panthers (0-1, 0-3).
Chambers bucketed 13 for Farrell, but sophomore Marissa Carry had a career-high 32 points, which included 7 treys.
Frosh Lexie Grinnell led the way for CP with 11 points.
ä Kennedy Catholic 70, Jamestown 32 — At Jamestown, the visiting Lady Golden Eagles eruped for 29 first-period points and shot 84 percent from the field during the 1st half in building a 40-6 bulge by the break.
Rachel Burns, Alex Ricketts and Marina Wareham evenly divided 48 points to key Kennedy (2-0). Also, Burns and Ricketts were credited with 11 and 10 steals, respectively, and Brie Dickson hauled down 8 caroms for coach Tom Burns, who reported his club connected on 70 percent of its floor shots for the contest.
Amanda Buchholz bucketed a dozen points for Jamestown (1-3).
WRESTLING
ä Sharon 68, Slippery Rock 7 — At Sharon, the Tigers rolled over the Rockets as Tyler Zoccole (135), Tim Runyan (145), Jason Ondic (160), Carl Tucker (171), Lewendo Teague (189) and Geoff Wilson (285) earned pins for Sharon.
Gordon Belber (125) and Kayla Bredlinger (112) earned the lone wins for Slippery Rock.
ä Reynolds 41, McDowell 22 — On a night they honored some of the former wrestlers from the 1960’s, the Raiders rolled past visiting Erie McDowell Wednesday in their season-opener.
Notching pins for the Raiders of coach Brian Hills were Mason Beckman (119), Dylan D’Urso (125), Luke Taylor (152) and Blake Heim (215). Tyler Rhodes (160) and Greg Baptiste (171) picked up major decisions against their Class AAA opponents.
BOYS BASKETBALL
ä Grove City 61, Lincoln 55 — At Ellwood City, the visiting Eagles eased to their 2nd win in as many nights to remain undefeated.
Pat Johnson’s 18-point, 12-rebound double-double, Torin Smith’s game-high 23-point performance, and Brady Beech’s 11-point, 7-assist line led the Eagles (4-0), while Alec Goodwin dished out a half-dozen helpers.
Led by Smith’s scorching 6 triples, Grove City actually bucketed more fielders from beyond the arc (12) than from inside the line (9).
For Ellwood (1-4), Gino Ceriani, Ryan Horgan and Cody Mittita mustered 15, 11 and 10 points, respectively.
