Buhl center sets open house Saturday

Tours, giveaways are planned

The Buhl Community Recreation Center will conduct an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Sharon’s Pine Street location.

Formerly known as the F.H. Buhl Club for more than 100 years, the center changed its name last year to better indicate the complete family facilities that are available.

There has been a large amount of interest in the open house since it was first announced and more than 50 venders will have displays in the center’s main gymnasium. There will be several give-aways, including various prizes and memberships.

Tours will be conducted to provide the public with a full view of the club’s two gyms, aquatic center, handball/racquetball courts, wellness center, dance-instruction and martial-arts areas, and child-sitting service area.

There are men’s locker room and steam-room areas, as well as women’s locker room and sauna.

The public can receive a free complimentary workout in the wellness center.

The BCRC, which is a United Way agency and provides several free memberships for needy children, will conduct several classes during the tours (There will be wellness basket giveaways each hour as well.), including:

ä 10-11 a.m — junior line ballet dance, jump-stretch, cardio groove.

ä 11-noon — junior line jazz & tap dance, zumba.

ä noon-1 p.m. — deep water aerobics, bosu.

ä 1-2 — spinning, intermediate jazz & tap.

“Many people in our area don’t realize the full extent of the programs we offer,” said Carolyn Williams, BCRS interim co-executive director with Wayne Bair. “And new program director Debbie DiCarlo is currently looking into expanding the number of programs.”

The club is scheduled to be featured on Youngstown Channel 21’s morning show from 5-7 a.m. Thursday.
