Let’s continue to give accolades to recent section winners and individual leaders of various leagues.
ä Nittany Pub & Grille won the 1st session of the Shenango Valley Tavern League that competes at Thornton Hall Lanes. They ended the session with 24 wins. Team members are Tim Templeton, Dave Montgomery, John Lapikas, Wally Grimm and Jerry Morocco.
In what has become a common occurrence in most leagues, there were only four games separating the top teams. Nittany Too finished 2nd with 23 points while Thelma’s Sports Nook finished 3rd with 21. Nittany Three finished 4th with 20.
High team scratch series is held by Nittany Too with 3116. Team members are John Scott, Jeff Sherman, Mike Prezgay, Tim Abbott and Nathan Sakony. Thelma’s Sports Nook is 2nd with 2966 while Nittany Pub & Grille is 3rd with 2928.
Billy’s Black & Gold is the leader in team scratch game with 1068. Team members are Dave VanOrd, R.J. Bowers, Ray Bowers, Mario Formichella and Fred Leunis. Sharon Elks is 2nd with 1067, and La Isla #1 is 3rd with 1064.
Wally Grimm is high scratch individual series with 770. Brian Geisel is 2nd with 767 and Chip Smith is 3rd with 727.
High Scratch game goes to Larry Long with 287. He is followed by Adam Scott and Jeff VanOrd at 279.
High averages are held by Jeff VanOrd (218.50), Adam Scott (213.08), Jerry Morocco (210.48), Ryan McCutcheon (210.21) and Grimm (210.14).
ä Team VanOrd won the 1st session of the Thornton Hall Monday Men’s Senior League. They ended the session with 23 points. Team members are Paul VanOrd, Bill Bowden, Lee Benge and Jerry Arthur. Team Gruver finished 2nd with 20.5 points and Team Hardin was 3rd with 20.
Team Fabrey has high team scratch series with 2252. Team members are Harry Jones, Don Bottenfield, Henry Fabrey II and Dick Costell. Team VanOrd is 2nd with 2237 while Team Formichella is 3rd with 2163.
High team handicap series is held by Team VanOrd with 2528. Team May is 2nd with 2487 and Team Formichella is 3rd with 2479.
Team Fabrey also has high team scratch game with 794. Team Formichella is 2nd with 789 while Team VanOrd is 3rd with 774.
Team Formichella has high team handicap game with 895. Team members include Ron Glaser, Bob Dillon, R. Sposito and Mario Formichella. Team Fabrey is 2nd with 867 and Team VanOrd is 3rd with 866.
Mike Prezgay has high individual series with 688. Chuck Gruver is 2nd with 675 and Jack May is 3rd with 664.
May has high handicap series with 807. Prezgay is 2nd with 793 and VanOrd is 3rd with 777.
High individual scratch game is held by Gruver with 265. May is 2nd with 264 and Arthur is 3rd with 256.
May has high handicap game at 304. Arthur is 2nd with 299 and Henry Hardin is 3rd with 286.
Gruver is the average leader at 203. Bottenfield is 2nd with 198 and Prezgay is 3rd with 192.
ä The Reds won the 1st session crown in the Erme’s Bowling League that competes at Sunset Lanes. They had 22 wins. Team members are Aaron Prezgay, Nathan Pryborowski, Marion Schultz and Jon Melhorn. The Pirates finished 2nd with 20 wins and the Mets finished 3rd with 19.
High team handicap series belongs to the Reds with 3035. The Yankees are 2nd with 3007.
High team handicap game is held by the Mets with 1139. Team members are Dave Davis, Dave Hassel, Eric Bulick and Shawn Bulick. The Pirates are 2nd with 1054.
High individual scratch series is held by Bard Letts with 668. Dennis James is 2nd with 595 and Gary Tatomirovich is 3rd with 568.
Nick Scarmack has high handicap series with 682. Dave Vasil is 2nd with 671 and Frank Williot is 3rd with 649.
Hassel has high scratch game with 256. Melhorn is 2nd with 248 and Bob Balach is 3rd with 224.
Prezgay has high handicap game with 274. G. Grkinich is 2nd with 256 and Pryborowski is 3rd with 243.
High average is held by Shawn Bulick with 197. Scarmack is 2nd with 190 and Dave Koosh is 3rd with 188.

Roundup: Hickory, Sharon, GC boys grab 6-AAA wins
The District 10 Class AA Team Dual-Meet Championships have been owned by Reynolds and Fort LeBoeuf since its inception, with the Raiders winning 10 titles under now retired coach Brian Hills and the Bison winning the other 3.
The two teams are heavily favored to meet again Saturday in the finals of the tourney at Edinboro University’s McComb Field House which expands to 8 teams this year for the first time. The top 2 teams advance to the state tourney the following weekend. -

10 area athletes make college choices
The National Letter-Of-Intent Day Wednesday saw numerous local athletes making their college choices.
Hickory High football players Matt Bell and Andrew Smith signed with Youngstown State University and Edinboro University respectively to continue their careers. Hickory running star Morgan Richards inked a letter-of-intent to compete at North Carolina-Charlotte.
Wilmington High lineman Bryn Kaufman and versatile Greenville gridder Nico Zahniser signed with St. Francis University.
Five Brookfield gridders made their choices, led by Aaron Gillis who signed with Division II Slippery Rock U. Headed for Division III schools are: Mike Johnson and Mark Hiner, Bethany, and Cory Mild and Brandon Mosora, Hiram. -
Roundup: Hickory edges Farrell, 63-62, in Region 6-AAA clash
It’s been that kind of a season for Farrell High boys basketball team.
The Steelers played, perhaps, their cleanest contest of the campaign in terms of minimizing miscues and converting offensive opportunities.
However Hickory’s Marcus Sonoga sank a pair of free throws with 2.9 ticks to play Tuesday night, hoisting the Hornets to their 2nd 1-point Region 6-AAA road win in a week, 63-62 at E.J. McCluskey Gymnasium. -

ä Sharon 61, West Middlesex 49 — At West Middlesex, coach Gene Sarazen’s Lady Tigers (13-4) rallied from an early 17-point deficit and rolled past the Ms. Reds (9-7) in the non-region game.
Mallory Torr scored 14 to lead Sharon, which is an honorable mention team in the latest Class AA state rankings from The Harrisburg-Patriot News. -

HIGH SCHOOL WINTER SPORTS: Phipps, Stidham win Bell titles
Grove City star Wes Phipps and Hickory standout Nate Stidham were the lone local champions at the rugged 29th Fred Bell Memorial Wrestling Tournament Saturday at Grove City High.
Phipps, 23-0 on the season, was named the MVP after topping McDowell strongman Khlique Harris, 4-1, in the 182 weight class to notch his second straight Bell crown.
Stidham pulled out a hardfought 4-3 victory over Jamestown’s Aaron Roberts to cop the 126-pound title. - More Sports Headlines
