D-10 Soccer Playoffs: Mercer boys, Wilmington girls are ousted

Area soccer teams went 0-2 on Tuesday in the District 10 playoffs.

In Class A boys, the Mercer Mustangs suffered a 2-0 loss to the Lakers of Mercyhurst Prep. In Class AA girls, Wilmington suffered a 9-1 loss to Harbor Creek.

BOYS

Class A

ä Mercyhurst Prep 2, Mercer 0 — At Harbor Creek High School’s Paul J. Weitz Field, the Region 1 champion Mustangs (11-7-1) were shut out by at-large Mercyhurst Prep (14-2-3).

Max Weber and Josh Ott scored 2nd-half goals for MP. Connor Frawley and Tucker Bolding were credited with assists.

Mercer, which loses 11 seniors, outshot Prep 12-10.

Mustangs’ keeper Joel Solomon made 5 saves while Mercyhurst Prep’s Jordan Felice registered 3 saves. Felice has faced 189 shots on goal and only 8 have reached the net.

The only difference between the Lakers being a top seed or an at-large was 1 goal in an overtime loss to Fairview.

The Lakers advance to play the winner of Tuesday night’s match between Region 3 champ Fairview and at-large Eisenhower. That game followed the Mercer game at Harbor Creek High.

The Mercyhurst vs. Fairview-Eisenhower District 10 title match is on Saturday.

Fairview is the defending D-10 champions.

GIRLS

Class AA

ä Harbor Creek 9, Wilmington 1 — At Veterans Stadium in Erie, the Lady Huskies (16-3) routed the Region 1 champion Lady Greyhounds (8-9-1).

Holly Lovich scored the lone goal for Wilmington.

Harbor Creek has posted 14 shutouts this season and has only allowed 8 goals all year — 5 to Villa Maria.

Harbor Creek advances to play the winner of Tuesday night’s match between Region 3 champion Villa Maria and at-large Fairview. That game followed the Wilmington game at The Vet in Erie.

The Harbor Creek vs. Villa-Fairview District 10 title match is 5 p.m. on Thursday at Veterans Stadium.

Fairview has won the D-10 title the past 4 seasons.

ä Hickory boys, who defeated Warren in a shootout Monday, will play in the Class AA semifinals against Slippery Rock at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Wilmington High. In the other AA semi, Harbor Creek will be home to Central Tech at 7 p.m. today.
