---- — ä Greenville 14, Sharon 7 — At Greenville, the defense came up big and stopped several Sharon threats to stake a claim for postseason action from Region 3-AA.

The victory lifted the Trojans of coach Brian Herrick into a 5-way tie for the region lead at 2-1 (2-2 overall). Sharon fell to 1-2, 1-3.

Greenville got on the scoreboard first in the opening quarter when Luke Houpt tallied on a 1-yard run. Casey Eells nailed his first of two points-after kicks.

But Sharon came back in the second quarter and hit paydirt on a 4-yard run by Carnell Hawkins. Evan Gill’s PAT boot knotted the score at 7, which held to intermission.

The Trojans moved back on top, 14-7, midway through the third period when Houpt scored on a 12-yard aerial from Jacob Riffe.

Sharon threatened late in the game, moving to the Greenville 6-yard line, but the stingy Trojans defense rose to the occasion and finally took over on downs. The Trojans then ran out the clock.

Greenville used a punishing ground game that netted 235 yards, led by Tyler Fattman who gained 123 yards on 21 carries. Houpt ended with 61 yards on 14 totes.

ä Lakeview 28, Mercer 13 — At Lakeview, the home team overcame four lost fumbles and scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to break open a tight contest.

The Sailors of coach Dan York moved to 2-0 in Region 1-A with the victory and 3-1 overall. Mercer fell to 0-3, 2-2.

Lakeview opened the scoring on a 3-yard run by Sam Breese, but the kick failed. Then in the second quarter, the Mustangs took the lead on a 19-yard pass from Logan Clarke to Evan Nan  and PAT kick by Chase Hoffman. The Sailors scored again before half, when Nate Kokoski hit paydirt from 2-yards out and tacked on 2 points on a Zach Bigley pass to Brandon Rice.

After a scoreless third quarter, Mercer closed the gap in the fourth frame with  another Nan TD on a 5-yard pass from Clarke. However the PAT kick failed and Lakeview still clung to a 14-13 margin.

The Sailors then broke open the game with a pair of scores, a 1-yard run by Kokoski and a 30-yard connection from Bigley to Zach VanDusen. A Bigley pass to Rice clicked again for 2-points after the first TD.

Blake Reddick led the Lakeview attack with 163 yards on 27 carries.

ä Brookfield 35, Warren JFK 0 — At Brookfield’s Addison Field, it was a battle of unbeatens, but the host Warriors of coach Randy Clark left no doubt about which team was superior.

The Warriors dominated the game on both sides of the ball to move to  5-0 on the campaign. Brookfield is ranked No. 1 in its region.

Brookfield’s Ryan Mosora had another impressive night scoring 3 touchdowns and rushing for 203 yards on 17 carries. He scored on runs of 73, 14 and 5 yards. Jeremy Quinlan scored on a 3-yard run and finished with 111 yards on 12 carries. Joe Clark tacked on the other touchdown on a 1-yard burst. Quinlan converted on all 5 PAT kicks.

The Warriors line was impressive in opening holes for the backs which amounted to 370 yards gained on the ground. Meanwhile, the defense was crushing and held JFK to minus-13 yards rushing.

ä West Middlesex 32, Conneaut 7 — At Linesville, Luke Patten rushed for 115 yards, scored 2 touchdowns and threw for another in leading the Big Reds (2-0, 3-1) past Conneaut.

WM took a 6-0 lead in the 1st quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Trey Staunch. The Big Reds led 12-0 at halftime on a 1-yard run by Patten. Both extra-point kicks failed.

The Big Reds scored a pair of TDs in the 3rd quarter to go up 26-0. Patten fired a 53-yard TD pass to Jeremy Jancso and Patten later scored on a 17-yard run. Staunch added both PATs.

West Middlesex went up 32-0 in the 4th on a 2-yard TD run by Austin Mirizio. The extra-point kick failed.

Conneaut finally got on the board late in the game on a 24-yard TD run by Hunter Merritt. Tanner Houck tacked on the PAT.

Staunch was 12-of-21 for 102 yards with 1 interception. Eric Lucich rushed for 87 yards on 11 carries and Sage Pope pulled in 7 passes for 80 yards.

“It was a nice road win against a big Class AAA team,” said WM coach Jason McElhaney. “They have some big kids. It was a nice win and most importantly we leave here with a 2-0 region record.”

ä Farrell 54, Redbank Valley 0 — At Redbank Valley, the Steelers of coach Jarrett Samuels bounced back from their loss to West Middlesex the previous week by routing the District 9 club.

Farrell built a 34-0 halftime lead and never looked back as the Steelers moved to 3-1 on the season.

DeWayne Burns scored four touchdowns on runs of 47 and 70 yards, a 94-yard kickoff return and a 41-yard pass from Ray Johnson. Johnson scored on a 1-yard run, Jalen Scott a 3-yard burst, Deante Phillips a  20-yard sprint and Brandon Gavins a 20-yard run. Austin Pinkins kicked 7 PATs.

Burns gained 179 yards on only 8 carries.

ä Reynolds 43, Saegertown 13 — At Transfer, coach Jerry Pacifico’s Raiders (2-1, 3-1) sent a statement to other teams in Region 3 as they pounded the Panthers (0-3, 0-4).

Reynolds led 21-0 at the end of the 1st quarter, 28-0 at the break and led 43-0 before the Panthers scored twice in the 4th quarter.

Kellen Gursky led the way for Reynolds with a trio of TD runs. He scored on runs of 14, 15 and 42 yards.

Mike Millero broke loose for a 58-yard TD run, Austin Matthews had a 13-yard run and Curt Fowler scored on a 9-yard jaunt.

Joe Yarzab booted 5 PATs for Reynolds and Dan Blaney had a 2-point conversion run.

Trey Reagle scored from 1 yard out for Saegertown and James Taylor broke loose for a 61-yard TD run. Alex Barclay converted 1 of their 2 PAT attempts.

No team or individual stats were reported by Reynolds.

ä Wilmington 32, Titusville 7 — At Titusville, the Greyhounds had little problem in moving to  2-1 in Region 3-AA and 3-1 overall.

Tyler Tonati scored three touchdowns on runs of 1, 2 and 68 yards. Alex Patton hit paydirt on an 8-yard pass from Cody Llewellyn and Donnie Watson scored on a 30-yard aerial from Llewellyn.

The Hounds amassed 442 yards on offense, including the ground game resulting in 289.

Xavier DeRose scored the lone Titusville (1-2, 2-2) TD on an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter.
