MERCER COUNTY —
Grove City High girls’ tennis team captured the District 10 Region 1 championship Wednesday afternoon via a 3-2 victory over Hickory at New Wilmington.
The Lady Eagles (13-2) ended up sweeping all 3 singles matches, including straight-sets sweeps from Meredith Trent, Abby Casalnova and Reba Duran.
For Hickory (12-3), the doubles duos of Lauren Kizak-Nikki Morgenstern and Rachel Mettee-Lauren McGonigle triumphed.
The teams ended as regular-season region co-champions; however, with Wednesday’s win Grove City will advance to the District 10 Team Championships Oct. 18, Hickory coach Diane Vermeier reported.
Singles: Trent (GC) def. Marissa Works, 6-1, 6-1; Casalnova (GC) def. Allie Newmeyer, 6-4 6-3; Duran (GC) def. Sharon Mettee, 6-2, 6-2. Doubles: Kizak-Morgenstern (H) def. Alexis Delligatti-Stephanie Krofcheck, 6-2, 6-2; R.Mettee-McGonigle (H) def. Maddie Jazwinski-Courtney Corban, 6-3, 6-1.
ä Kennedy Cathoilc 5, Franklin 0 — At Buhl Farm Park, coach Frank Bober’s host Lady Golden Eagles (9-4) eased to a handful of straight-sets sweeps, including Kelsey George, Monica Bober and Rebekah Kish, as well as the tandems of Abianna Danta-Stephanie Moore and Meghan Boyd-Lanie O’Brien.
Franklin fell to 3-11.

BOYS SOCCER
ä Wilmington 1, Grove City 0 — In a match otherwise dominated by Grove City, Wilmington (10-1, 6-1) defeated the Eagles (7-8, 1-6) with just 1 shot on goal Tuesday night. Marc Delio scored for the Greyhounds in the 1st half.
Grove City had 34 offensive attacks, 21 shots, 8 shots on goal and 2 corner kicks. Wilmington had 14 attacks, 9 shots and 1 shot on goal. Wilmington keeper Ian Behm had 8 saves.
GIRLS SOCCER
ä Sharon 2, Kennedy 1 — At Tiger Stadium, the host Lady Tigers triumphed as Madison Busse tallied twice, including the 2nd-half winner.
Hannah Rauch and Hannah Levitt were credited with assists for Sharon (4-8) while goalkeeper Kelsie McGranahan made 7 saves.
Tawney Godfrey garnered the Lady Golden Eagles’ goal, assisted by Anna Bonomo. Shelby McElhinny served as KC’s keeper, making 10 saves.
JV: Kennedy Catholic, 2-0 (Tesse Bonomo, Autumn Jarvis; Liz Volkay in goal).
ä Mercer 3, West Middlesex 1 — At West Middlesex, Megan McKinney mustered a hat trick as the visiting Lady M’s won their 8th consecutive match.
Kaitlynn Mostard-Smith’s corner kick set up the 1st goal, and she also was credited on the 3rd, while Lexi Arkwright added another. Analise Whenry did not permit a goal.
Shae Romain scored off Delaney David’s crossing pass for the Ms. Reds.
ä Hickory 7, Meadville 0 At Hornet Stadium, Sara Suler scored 4 goals to lead the Lady Hornets (12-1).
Also contributing for Hickory: Isabella Spadafora (goal, 3 assists), Cali Free (goal), Michelle DeGerolamo (goal, assist), Madison Bell (assist) and goalkeeper Casey Zreliak (1 save).
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
ä Hickory 3, Greenville 0 — at Hermitage, the host Lady Hornets (3-5) hravested a 25-22, 25-21, 25-21 win.
