Roundup: Sharpsville, Wilmington, Mercer, Hickory girls soccer squads win

ä Sharpsville 3, West Middlesex 1 —
At West Middlesex, Natalie Henwood scored on a corner kick and breakaway in leading the Blue Darlings to the win over the Ms. Reds (2-3-1). Chandli Hasenplug had the other goal for Sharpsville off an assist by Aislinn Frazer.

Brianna Spencer posted the lone goal for WM, off an assist from Searra McElrath.

Megan Whalen (7 saves) was in goal for Sharpsville while Mackenzie Thompson (16 saves) was between the pipes for WM.

JV: Sharpsville, 2-0.

ä Wilmington 6, Sharon 2 — At Tiger Stadium, the visiting Lady Hounds (1-4) won their 1st match of the season, as Kyler Lum lent 4 goals and Hannah Heartwell and Rachael Huff had 1 apiece.

For Sharon, Hannah Rausch recorded both goals.

ä Mercer 4, Kennedy Catholic 0 — At Lamor Road Field, Mindy Brown, Megan McKinney, Lexi Arkwright and Kaitlynn Mostard-Smith had goals as the Lady M’s blanked KC.

Brown and Julia Weller were credited with assists. Analise Whenry made 5 saves in goal for the shutout.

Shelby McElhinny recorded 6 saves in net for the Lady Golden Eagles.

ä Hickory 3, Grove City 0 — Under the lights at Hornet Stadium, M.K. Bair scored 2 goals and Jackie White tallied the other one as the Hornettes blanked the Lady Eagles.

White, Jenna Placzek and Patrice Clemenza had assists. Morgan McBride recorded the shutout in goal.

Note: In Hickory’s win vs. Sharpsville last Thursday, Sara Suler set a single-game school record with 5 assists.

ä At Oak Tree Country Club, the host Big Reds recorded the win.

Led by medalist Nate Anthony’s round of 72, Middlesex mustered 326 strokes to outdistance Hickory (334), Sharon (352), Wilmington (407) and Sharpsville (408).

Middlesex and Hickory are tied atop the season standings with 18 points apiece, followed by Sharon (12), Sharpsville (7) and Wilmington (5).

West Middlesex: Anthony 72, Matt Dogan 83, Ryan Dogan 85, Brady Byers 86.

At Sheakleyville, Reynolds’ Candi Arnold annexed a 1st-place clocking of 23:53, 19 ticks ahead of Perry’s Katelyn Adams. Reynolds improved to 1-3.

ä Sharpsville 15, Mercer 43 — At Brandy Springs Park, the visiting Blue Darlings defeated Mercer (1-2), led by 1st-place finisher Maddie Przicina’s 22-minute effort.

ä Greenville 18, Sharon 44 — Greenville’s Maddie Thrasher, Nanami Mano and Emily Marshall placed 1-2-3 to lead the triumphant Lady Trojans.

ä Hickory 15, Slippery Rock 50 — At Hermitage, Lexi Bible clocked in at 19:55 for the Lady Hornets (3-0), who swept the top 8 berths. Lauren Bietz led SR with a 9th-place finish.

ä West Middlesex 15, Lakeview 50 — At Stoneboro, Kristen White clocked in at 21:20 for WM as the Ms. Reds captured 8 of the top 10 spots. Carrie Kiester ended 8th for Lakeview.

ä Jamestown 15, Kennedy Catholic 50 (forfeit) — At Jamestown, Lady Muskie Lindsey Anderson annexed 1st in the exhibition in 23:53.

ä Hickory 17, Slippery Rock 44 —
At Hermitage, Kyle Boyd (17:49), Kevin Jancsar and Logan Griffen swept the top 3 spots as the Hornets (3-0) rolled. Caleb Bickel placed 4th (18:27) for the Rockets.

ä Greenville 23, Sharon 41 — The Trojans triumphed, led by eight top-10 placewinners. However, Sharon’s Cody Buchanan won in a time of 17:32, 19 seconds ahead of Greenville’s Dylan Foley.

ä Jamestown 23, Kennedy Catholic 36 — At Jamestown, Christian McElhaney moved the Muskies to victory as he won in 18:58, approximately a minute ahead of runnerup Billy Flynn of KC.

ä West Middlesex 16, Lakeview 47 — At Stoneboro, R.J. Gilliland posted a time of 18:16 for the Big Reds to take 1st place as the first 7 runners finished in a 37-second pack. Devon Workman was 5th for the Sailors.

ä Commodore Perry 15, Reynolds 50 (forfeit) — At Sheakleyville, Commodore Perry’s Nate White won the exhibition (18:21). Reynolds is winless in 3 meets.

ä Sharpsville at Mercer (double forfeit) — At Brandy Springs Park, neither school fielded a full squad. Mercer’s Kevin Reno (17:28) won the exhibition, while Sharpsville’s Mike Vannoy clocked in at 22:21.
