MERCER — It’s was lights out Friday night in the annual Mercer County senior all-star basketball games, as paced by MVPs Kasey Gardner and Jordan Fee, the light-colored jerseys swept their counterparts at Mercer High.
Gardner garnered a game-high 25-point performance in leading the Lights to a 74-39 rout, while Grove City’s Fee distributed 13 assists as he rallied his club from a 38-34 halftime deficit for a 69-66 win.
Fee fired in only 5 points, but got all of his teammates involved as Commodore Perry High’s Clay Sindlinger — Mercer County’s male career scoring leader (2,015) — scored a game-high 20 points, complemented by Grove City’s Ben Liebling (14) and Lakeview’s Jake Bertin (10). Kennedy Catholic’s Blair Rozenblad, George Junior Republic’s Chris Cantino and Farrell’s Josh Williams and Torlando Hopson contributed 15, 14, 11 and 11 points, respectively.
Shippensburg University-bound Gardner, Sharpsville’s scoring record-holder (1,443), tossed in a handful of triples to lead the Lights, while Sharon High’s Brittany Csatlos and Katie Kelly contributed 19 and 13 points, respectively. Hickory High’s Arin Whitman tallied 13 points and Kennedy Catholic High’s Heather Brooks bucketed 10 for the dark-colored shirts.
Mercer Basketball Boosters Club sponsored the event, which included slam-dunk and 3-point shooting contests. Cantino copped the dunking event, outleaping Liebling, while Brooks and Lakeview’s Michael Philson both fired in 11 triples in a 45-second span to win the long-distance shooting contest.
