ä Hickory 3, Grove City 2 — At Grove City in a battle of unbeatens, Hickory prevailed. The match was decided in the battle of No. 1 players as Marissa Works edged Abby Casalanova in a third set tie-breaker battle, 6-2, 1-6 and 7-6(7-2).
“It was a big win,” said a happy Hickory coach Diane Vermeire. “Grove City is our biggest rival. We play them one more time.”
Hickory is 7-0 and Grove City 6-1.

ä Hickory 4, Sharpsville 1 — At Hornet Stadium Wednesday night, Justin Piedle notched a 2nd-half hat trick after Hickory teammate Evan Montgomery hit the net in the 1st half. Shawn McGowan and Montgomery had assists. Taran Roesch scored for Sharpsville. For Hickory, Dante Green had 5 saves in net. JV: Hickory, 9-0.
ä Kennedy Catholic 2, Grove City 1 — At Butala Stadium, Hermitage, the host Golden Eagles eased to the win in their season lidlifter..
KC’s Jimmie D’Onofrio drilled a 1st-half off an assist from Stephens Edge for a 1-0 margin at intermission.
However Grove City’s Matt Welker scored on a penalty kick with 9:46 left in regulation to earn the Eagles a 1-all tie.
But Kennedy’s Christian Riggle scored the game-winner with 3:16 left via D’Onofrio’s assist.

ä West Middlesex 2, Oil City 1 — At West Middlesex, the Ms. Reds notched their first-ever wiln in the short 2-year history of the sport at the school.
“I’m ecstatic,” said coach Mike Williams. “I’m happy for the kids. It was exciting. We rang the bell, just like every other sport that wins.”
Taylor Gilliland scored the 1st goal on a breakaway and Delaney David hit home with a putback. Oil City scored on a direct kick of about 20 yards by Olivia Chapman.
The hosts outshot the Lady Oilers, 34-17. Dayinera Everhart made her 1st start in goal and came up with 12 saves for WM (1-1-1).
“Angie Sochor and Amelia Hemminger were outstanding on defense for us,” said Williams, “and Sam Spangler made game-winning save on a corner kick.”
ä Grove City 3, Sharpsville 1 — At Sharpsville, the visiting Lady Eagles (1-0) notched scores by Kalie Davis, Mariah Treiber and Rachel Schmidt in the 2nd half. Aislinn Frazer tallied the lone goal for Sharpsville in the 2nd half as well on an assist by Julianna Sickafus. Megan Whalen had 10 saves in goal for the hosts, while GC netter Olivia Andrews had 8 saves.
ä Meadville 1, Sharon 0 (2 OT) — At Tiger Stadium, Corey Sayer scored on a header off a corner kick for the lone goal.
Sarah Braden played between the pipes for MASH, while Sharon netminder Alexis Jefferson made 14 saves.
ä The Ellis School 4, Kennedy Catholic 1 — At Mellon Park in Shadyside Wednesday, the visiting Lady Golden Eagles dropped their season-opener.
The Tigers led by 2 at half and then went on to outscore Kennedy 2-1 in the 2nd half. Tawney Godfrey scored the lone goal for Kennedy, while goalkeeper Shelby McElhinny recorded 17 saves on 21 shots.

ä Farrell 3, Sharon 0 — At E.J. McCluskey Gym, the host Lady Steelers secured a 25-23, 25-16, 25-13 sweep in their season-opener.

ä Kennedy Catholic 176, Mercer 197 — At Spring Valley, Mercer, the visiting Golden Eagles (3-2) eased to the win, led by John McGonigle and Paul Spondike, both of whom shot 43. Mercer’ Nate Guiler garnered medalist honors with a 42.
