MINOR DIVISION (9-10)
ä Reynolds 14, Sharpsville-B 3 — Reynolds ripped 5 hits en route to an 8-run 1st frame.
Noah Fuchs singled twice and doubled, and Grey DeCiancio and Daniel Blayney stroked 2 safeties apiece for Reynolds in support of pitcher Dustin Reimold, who whiffed 2.
For Sharpsville, Frazier doubled, Loedding singled twice, and McCarthy pitched.
ä Mercer 24, Farrell 16 — At Farrell, Mercer’s offense was led by Trent Leonard (5 hits including 2 doubles), Kyle Ricketts (single, double, 2 triples), Jimmy Amon (2 doubles, single), Haylie Glass (2 singles, double), Brock Watson (single, double), Max Hamilton and Josh Wamboldt (2 singles each), and Eric Gawne and Conner and Spencer Ference (singles).
ä Hermitage 13, Greenville 10 — At Hermitage, Jason Pursel doubled and singled and Byron Patterson added a pair of singles as Hermitage topped Greenville. John John Roberts, Will Gruber and Chance Goeke also singled for Hermitage while Ethan Davis and Patterson pitched. They combined to strike out 5 batters. Ethan Reiser and Trap Wentling shared mound duty for Greenville. Offensively, Blake Reynolds tripled and Wentling, Scott Simcoe, Elijah Dangrow, Cole Kusich and Levi Gill had singles.
ä West Middlesex 24, Sharpsville 0 (4 inn.) — At West Middlesex, Josh Porterfield pitched 4 frames of 1-hit ball, fanning 4, and aided his own cause by tripling twice and singling twice. Also, Marshall Murray singled and doubled, Trent Kimmel singled twice and doubled, Dustin Murray and Cameron Prebble both singled twice, John Devlin doubled, and Cade Franks, Jace Burger, Jack Gladysz and Braden Gentile singled.
Trontel ripped a hit for Sharpsville.
ä Correction: Max Frazer of Sharpsville 9-10 had 2 triples in a game against Hermitage, and pitched and had another couple hits against Grove City. His last name was incorrectly submitted to The Herald.
MAJOR DIVISION (11)
ä West Middlesex 15, Greenville 5 (5 inn.) — At West Middlesex under the lights, Mitch Murray muscled a 3-run home run to back the pitching of Zack Moats and Nate Patten, who split 8 strikeouts. Also, Josh Porterfield, Phil Fusco and Travis Roberts doubled, Patten produced a single and double, Brett Kirk singled twice, and Dylan Long and Ryan Dogan drilled hits.
Brant Miller, Hunter Hause and Austin Burnett took turns on the mound for Greenville. Brady Stell and Jake Anthony each banged 2-run round-trippers, Trent McErlane singled and doubled, and Jase Paxton and Burnett bopped base hits.
ä Grove City 12, Hermitage 5 — At Grove City, Austin Wilds pitched and batted Grove Cit to the win as, in 4 frames, he struck out 6 and also homered and singled. Also, Jordan Anderson added 2 doubles and Brett Snyder and Brendan Record ripped 2 hits apiece, while Derek Cameron and Seth Uber stroked singles. Justin Griffin fanned 4 in 2 innings of relief, also.
Tyler Canon and Andrew Pryts pitched for Hermitage, Zach Cirillo doubled, Anthony Nardone notched 2 hits, and Ryan Laverty, Nathan Aikins and Tyler Montroy mustered hits.
ä West Middlesex 17, Grove City 1 (4 inn.) — Trey Staunch and Andrew Long both doubled twice, as did Chaz Burger, Mike Gladsyz tripled and Adam Hubert singled twice and doubled for winning West Middlesex, which scored 12 first-inning runs. Also, Riley Atterholt, Jared Horgos, Gladysz and Long took turns on the hill, with Atterholt and Horgos splitting 6 strikeouts. Mike Bacchetti and Atterholt added hits.
SENIOR-JUNIOR DIVISION
ä Sharon 6, Reynolds 1 — At Transfer, winning pitcher Justin Stefanowicz struck out 6 in a complete-game performance and also helped himself by stroking a pair of safeties. Also, Josh Nichols and Jakob Allshouse doubled (Nichols notched 2 additional hits), Robbie Rice ripped 2 hits, and Leo Rahn and Nick Carlo collected hits.
Tyler Thompson also went the distance on the mound, but sufferd the setback. Also, Paul Torok tattooed 2 hits and Kellen Gurnsey, Kyle McConnell and Jordan Weaver whacked base hits.
SENIOR DIVISION
ä West Middlesex 11, Greenville 5 — At Greenville, Dillon Fair fanned 2 in 5-plus frames and singled and doubled to key winning West Middlesex. Also, Jeremy Jansco singled and doubled, as did Kyle Gilmore, Christian Porterfield pounded a two-bagger, as did Aaron Webb, and Jesse Nych, Vince DeStefano and Mike Ginther stroked safeties.
Tyler Fattman, Matt Jones and Jason Forbes took turns on the hill for Greenville. Also, Forbes forged 3 hits, Braden Gladysz 2, and Trevor Mitchell and Jason Irwin one apiece.

Roundup: Hickory girls beat Franklin in battle of 5-AAA leaders
Knowing its male counterparts upset Franklin 48 hours earlier, the Hickory High girls basketball team was not to be outdone.
Forcing Franklin into a substandard shooting performance, the Lady Hornets harvested a 53-42 District 10 Region 5-AAA win Monday night. -
SPORTVIEW: Reynolds, Greenville are 2 of state's historic programs
CONGRATULATIONS TO the Reynolds High wrestling program which became the fastest Class AA team in the history of the state to reach 700 wins last weekend.
The program, which began in 1960-61 under coach Dick Sherwood, has set a torrid pace for winning since that 4-4 season.
Ironically, the school’s 700th victory came Saturday in the District 10 Dual Meet Championships against long-time rival Greenville, which went over the 700-win plateau in 2009. Greenville is believed to be the first AA team to reach 700 wins, while Reynolds did it in the shortest time. -
Hickory soccer standouts Free, Richards to Ashland University
Hickory High girls’ soccer coach B.J. Rudge believes the bar has been elevated, and his Lady Hornets have helped hoist it.
“In general, soccer has grown in this area ... and what our girls have accomplished is a reflection of the whole (Shenango) Valley,” Rudge recently observed. -
Ft. LeBoeuf beats Reynolds at D-10 AA Team Duals
EDINBORO — The Reynolds Raiders notched the school’s 700th victory in the semifinals of the District 10 Dual Meet Championships Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Raiders, No. 701 will have to come later.
The Raiders topped long-time rival Greenville, 51-16, in the semis to become the first Class AA school in Pennsylvania history to 700 wins. However, in the D-10 finals at Edinboro University’s McComb Field House, the Raiders fell to familiar foe Fort LeBoeuf, 31-28. -
Roundup: Popatak hits 1,000; Hickory, Farrell, Sharon boys win 6-AAA contests
ä Hickory 64, Franklin 52 — At “The Castle” in Franklin, the Knights (9-3, 15-3) led 28-21 at halftime, but coach Nick Cannone’s Hornets (11-2, 13-5) came storming back and outscored the hosts 24-9 in the 3rd quarter and 19-15 in the 4th to win a key Region 6-AAA clash.
Vinnie Mastrian rifled in a career-high 28 points to lead Hickory while Matt Votino scored 22. -

West Middlesex High junior point guard Matt Dogan dominated the 2nd half of Friday night’s District 10 Region 1-A contest with visiting VisionQuest.
Dogan deposited 18 of his game-high 27 points after intermission, converting 12 of 16 free-throw attempts, leading the Big Reds to their 9th consecutive conquest, 56-41. -

Nico Zahniser believes four years of scholastic football prepared him for the next level — and learning how to win and lose was only part of the process.
The Greenville High senior committed to St. Francis University of Loretto earlier this week, where he hopes to become part of a Red Flash resurgence under coach Chris Villarrrial. -
