Annual song festival at First Presbyterian
SHARON — First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St., will present The Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
The service, which observes the Epiphany of Jesus, features the Shenango Valley Chorale Madrigal Singers and the sanctuary choir as well as members and friends of the church.

Hour of Power sets dedication services
FARRELL — Hour of Power Full Gospel Tabernacle, 1126 Fruit Ave., will have two services Sunday to dedicate the new church building.
The 11 a.m. service speaker will be the Rev. Joberta Patrick of Detroit. The 4:30 p.m. service speaker will be Bishop Stanley Smith of Meadville.
‘Cabin Fever Cure,’ book club at Mercer church
MERCER — Trinity Presbyterian Church, 110 E. Market St., will sponsor a “Mid-Winter Cabin Fever Cure” for all age groups from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
The free event begins with lunch. Activities include a scavenger hunt, games, demonstrations, and a musical jam for anyone who plays an instrument. Reports from recent mission trips also will be presented.
Weather permitting, an actual igloo will be featured.
Women’s Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 8 to discuss “Three Cups of Tea” by Greg Mortenson. Those interested in ordering the book should contact the church office at 724-662-2680 during business hours.
King celebration service set for Valley Baptist
FARRELL — Shenango Valley Ministerial Association will sponsor a Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Service at 4 p.m. Sunday in Valley Baptist Church, 500 Sharon-New Castle Road.
Speaker will be the Rev. Clevon Dukes of New Hope Baptist Church in Farrell. Participants will include a community choir under the direction of Phyllis Bolling and the 3MC Mighty Men of Greater Morris Chapel.
Catholic Women’s Retreat League to meet
SHARON — Mercer County Catholic Women’s Retreat League will meet at 10 a.m. Monday in the meeting room at St. Anthony’s Church, 804 Idaho St.
Discussion will be on the annual Day of Recollection, set for Feb. 28 in Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex. Updated rosters will be distributed to all parish representatives present.
S. Py Community Church adds Awana program
SOUTH PYMATUNING TOWNSHIP — Awana, a program for ages 3 through sixth grade, is being offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays in South Pymatuning Community Church, 3400 Tamarack Drive.
Awana uses a motivational awards program to teach basic biblical truths and principles through an organized scripture memorization method. Awana also offers group and individual Olympic-style games to teach sportsmanship, cooperative team effort and individual development. As various levels of instruction are achieved, awards and pins are earned.
Divisions are: Cubbies, ages 3 and 4; Sparkies, kindergarten through second grade; and T&T;, third through sixth grades.
Separate classroom supervision and instruction are provided and safety personnel available.

King Day youth meeting at Love Christian Center
FARRELL — The Rev. Lynda Haynes, junior pastor of Hour of Power Full Gospel Tabernacle in Farrell, will be guest speaker for a Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Day youth meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 in Love Christian Center, 411 Hamilton Ave.
The King’s Kids Choir of Hour of Power will sing. Theme will be “God Has a Plan for Your Life.” The meeting will conclude with drawings for door prizes for youths up to age 19.
Prophetic Worship Conference scheduled
FARRELL — Pastor Ricky Johnson of Under An Open Heaven Church and Elder Wronie Whitman of the host church will present the 2010 Prophetic Worship Conference at Greater Pentecostal House of Prayer, 725 Fruit Ave.
The conference will be at 6 p.m. nightly from Jan. 25 through 30.
The Five Fold Ministry seeks to “Change the Atmosphere” as a mission and “Worship Under Pressure” as a theme.

Janet Newell earns Bible college degrees
RALEIGH, N.C. — Apostle Janet L. Newell, pastor and overseer of Wind in the Word Worship Center formerly of Farrell, received a dual degree from New Covenant Bible College, Decatur, Ala.
She earned a bachelor’s in church administration and a master’s in Christian counseling, both with honors.
She is a daughter of Deacon Henry and Overseer Flora Newby of Hermitage, and the mother of five children.
Apostle Newell is preparing to launch a leadership training center in Raleigh, with the intent to start a Christian counseling practice in March.
