Police, Fire from October 23, 2009

Brookfield

• Gary M. Brian, 59, of Niles, was charged with theft at 2:52 a.m. Tuesday at a Brookfield business on Warren Sharon Road where he works. According to reports, Brookfield police were called to the business by the owner after Brian was caught stealing food from the store.

Grove City

• A Hewlett Packard laptop computer was stolen at about noon Monday from a backpack in Hicks Dining Hall, Grove City College, police said.

• The rear tires of a minivan were slashed sometime Oct. 16 behind 312 W. Main St., police said.

Sharpsville

• Jason A. Taylor, 23, of 69 East Shenango St., Sharpsville, was charged with simple assault, two counts of disorderly conduct, harassment and criminal mischief after two incidents, at 12:40 p.m. and 6:27 p.m., Tuesday. Police said they were called to East Shenango Street, after a woman said Taylor punched and then shoved her. He was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment from that incident, and as he was being taken to his arraignment, he kicked the rear window of the police cruiser and was told to stop. When he didn’t, he was charged with criminal mischief and another count of disorderly conduct, police said.

State police

• Violet V. Thompson, 79, Slippery Rock, and Quinn K. Conklin, 40, of Butler were hurt in a car/sport-utility vehicle crash at about 9 p.m. Tuesday on state Route 258 in Liberty Township.

Ms. Thompson’s northbound car crossed the center line and struck Ms. Conklin’s southbound SUV, police said.

Police said both were taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Youngstown, and Ms. Thompson was in critical condition there Thursday. Police said Ms. Conklin suffered minor injuries.

• A Reynolds High School student was hurt at about 6 p.m. Wednesday in a one-car crash on Lake Road in Jefferson Township. Police said Mason P. Beckman, 16, was traveling north on the road when he lost control at a curve and went into a ditch. He was taken to UPMC Horizon, Greenville with minor injuries, police said.

• Brian C. Hamilton, 34, of 1940 River Road, Hermitage; at 1:52 a.m. Thursday at Lamor Road and Covert Avenue.

WARRANT ARREST

Grove City

• Philip J. Hoffman, 23, of 809 Sunset Ave., Grove City; at 11:40 p.m. Oct. 13 on a bench warrant from Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge Francis J. Fornelli for failing to appear for call of the list on drug and forgery charges.
