---- —
ROCKFORD, Mich. – William ‘Yo’ Down of Rockford went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 17, 2013. He was 64.
Mr. Down grew up in Sharon and served as a deacon in the Presbyterian Church. While living there as a young man, he became an Eagle Scout.
After his graduation from the University of Cincinnati, Mr. Down worked as a manager for Sherwin-Williams Paint Co. He then worked at Airguard Industries Inc. as a manufacturing sales representative, subsequently becoming its regional manager in South Bend, Ind.
In 1993, Mr. Down purchased Midwest Air Filter Inc. in Grand Rapids, Mich.
He was a member of Grand Valley Corvette Club and served on the board of directors for Lake Bella Vista Association.
Mr. Down was a huge Notre Dame “Fighting Irish” fan and memorably died on St. Patrick’s Day.
He was a jovial, compassionate father who taught his children how to succeed in life. Mr. Down placed his family No. 1 in his life. He found joy in giving, not receiving; his generosity throughout his life helped many people.
Mr. Down was preceded in death by his father, William Down, and his mother, Betsy Down.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Paula; his children, Laura and her husband Dr. Stephen A. Strange; and Marcia and her husband Jonathan Shoham; his grandchildren, Savannah, Lillian, Jackson, Mason, Myles, William, Boston and Holland; his sister, Christine and her husband James Mondok; his nephews, Dennis Hunter and Timothy Hunter; his in-laws, Carol and Richard Bachman, Kathleen and Gary Mefford, Judith and Harley “Butch” Reed; and Susan and Roland Hite and their children.
