Grace I. Wilcox, New Castle, formerly of Hermitage, a devoted mother, wife and Christian, peacefully passed away Saturday afternoon, Feb. 4, 2012, in the home of her daughter in Maryland with her family by her side. She was 90.
Mrs. Wilcox was born Jan. 2, 1922, in New Castle, a daughter of Edward and Florence Moore Reynolds. Her devoted husband, Howard “Tom” Wilcox, to whom she was married 68 years, passed away June 10, 2010.
Grace was an accomplished seamstress who loved to sew and enjoyed doing handiwork. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed watching sports with her sons-in-law and grandchildren.
Grace and her husband Tom were two of the founding members of Faith Country Chapel in New Castle. For many years she taught Sunday school, assisted in the nursery and sang in the choir. Grace actively was involved in the missions program of the church.
In retirement she and her husband were active volunteers at the Shenango Valley Hospital and the Gideon’s of New Castle. Most recently she enjoyed friendships and adventures with the Rosebuds of Maple Heights.
She leaves her daughters and sons-in-law; Linda and Tom Long, Columbus, Ind.; Judith Rice, Odenton, Md.; and Nancy and Walter Morgan, Sudbury, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Gretchen Long Armer, Julie Long Howard and her husband Ryan, Brian Rice and his wife Melisa, Michael Rice, David Rice, Elizabeth Morgan and Ross Morgan. She also leaves her dear brother Edward Reynolds, Sarasota, Fla., five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Sophie, Lily, Addison and Rachael; beloved nieces and nephews; and she and her late husband’s dearest friends of 60 years; Dave and Mary Jane George.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Alice June Kennedy.
Her family suggests anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in her memory to please consider the Mission and Outreach Funds at Faith Country Chapel, 3818 Old Butler Road, New Castle, 16101; Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County, 1211 Wilmington Ave., New Castle, 16105; or City Rescue Mission, 319 South Croton Avenue, New Castle, 16101.
