Mathilda Elizabeth Papp Guidosh of Hubbard died peacefully Friday afternoon, Jan. 25, 2013, with her daughters at her bedside. She made her home with her daughter Martha and son-in-law Robert since 2006. She was 88.
Mrs. Guidosh was born July 19, 1924, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Sandor and Elizabeth Eszlari Papp, and relocated to Youngs-town as an infant.
Mathilda was a 1942 valedictorian graduate of Fitch High School, Austintown, Ohio, after which she was trained as an X-ray technician and worked at what was then St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Youngstown.
She grew up attending the Reformed Hungarian Church in Youngstown and was a member of Hubbard Presbyterian Church, where she was involved with its Youth Club and the Women’s Association.
Mathilda was a member of the Hubbard Parent Teacher Association and the band boosters when her daughters were in school.
She was an adept card player and was a member of the Westinghouse Card Club.
Her husband, John A. Guidosh, whom she married Nov. 22, 1947, preceded her in death after 55 years of marriage.
She will be sadly missed by her family, her daughters, Gail, wife of Kevin Flanigan, Grafton, Ohio; and Martha, wife of Robert Altier, Hubbard.
She dearly loved her six grandchildren, Gregory Jones, husband of Barbara, Statesville, N.C.; Christopher Jones, Pittsburgh; Brian Jones, husband of Amanda, Willoughby, Ohio; and Megan, Ryan and Katie Flanigan, all Grafton, Ohio. She took great pride in attending their school events and college graduations. From their early years she influenced them as she instilled a love of reading and music.
Mrs. Guidosh enjoyed traveling with Martha and Robert and especially liked riding in the Model A Ford and all the friends she made in the Five Points Model A Club.
Besides her husband, Mathilda was preceded in death by her sister, Isabelle Toth; and brothers, Dr. Sandor Papp and Bert Papp.
She leaves many nieces and nephews whom she held dearly in her heart.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Liberty Health Care, where she was convalescing since this past November.
