David J. Webber

Sharon man retired from police force, Delphi

---- — David J. Webber of Sharon passed away peacefully at 11:50 a.m. Monday (1-14-13) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. He was 71.

A lifelong resident of Sharon, Mr. Webber was born Oct. 27, 1941, in Christian H. Buhl Hospital, now the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, a son of Ray and Helen Diurba Webber.

He was a member of Sharon High School’s graduating class of 1960.

Following high school, he enlisted in the Army and achieved the rank of sergeant or “Buck Sergeant,” Specific 5. He was honorably discharged March 5, 1964.

He worked for the City of Sharon as a police officer and retired from the department as a patrol sergeant in August 1995. He then gained employment with Delphi Packard Electric Systems, Warren, Ohio, and retired from there in 2005.

David was a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Police Rose of Sharon Lodge 3, Sharon. He was instrumental in the development and upkeep of the FOP firing range on Water Avenue, dedicated to Frank T. White, where through the years he organized many events including countless turkey shoots.

He belonged to American Legion Post 299 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1338, both Sharon.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, he found his greatest joy when surrounded by his family and when he was rooting for his Cleveland Browns.

His wife, the former Sylvia A. Matusick, whom he married July 16, 1966, survives at home.

He also leaves: his daughter, Shari Williams, Howland, Ohio; a son, Matt Webber and his wife Jamie, Sharon; three grandchildren, Natalie M. Buckley; and two grandsons, Jackson and Gavin Webber; two stepgrandsons, Zac and Eli Meszaros; two sons-in-law, Dave Meszaros and Michael “Mick” Buckley, both Sharon; a sister, Martha Hench and her husband Chuck, Cincinnati; three brothers, James Webber, San Marcos, Calif.; Stephen Webber and his wife Jane, Sharpsville; and Tom Webber and his wife Vicki, Masury; a sister-in-law, Janet Webber, Masury; two brothers-in-law, Michael “Mouse” Matusick and his wife Jane, Hermitage; and William Tinley, Farrell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Julie A. Webber Buckley Meszaros; his father- and mother-in-law, Matthew and Natalie Matusick; his three brothers, Ray, Paul and William Webber; and a sister, Janet Tinley.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage, with committal prayers and military honors in Buhl Memorial Chapel.
