A memorial service will be held Saturday for James “Jim” Edward Huntley of 699 Grover Ave., Masury. He passed away at 12:15 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, in his son’s home at 2922 Hickory Creek Court, Dumfries, VA 22026. He was 79.
Mr. Huntley was born April 2, 1933, in Struthers, Ohio, to Richard and Essie Tinsley Huntley.
He was a graduate of Brookfield High School.
Mr. Huntley was employed as a quality control supervisor with General Motors in Buffalo, retiring in 1994. He took a leave of absence from the company and worked as a consultant with the Department of Labor from 1968-70.
He was a member of the Church of God in Buffalo, N.Y., from 1957-94. From 1994 until the time of his death, he belonged to Cedar Avenue Church of God, Sharon.
As a member of a motorcycle club in Buffalo, he loved riding motorcycles in the 1980s and was affectionately known as “Hangin’ Tough.” He was also called “Cowboy,” due to the many hats he used to wear.
Mr. Huntley was an avid coin collector and loved sports and politics. He loved people and was always willing to help those in need.
Mr. Huntley raised his granddaughter, Lyniece, who is currently attending graduate school in Cincinnati.
He married his wife, Shirley Ann Carter, on Oct. 17, 1953; she passed away Oct. 19, 2006.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Keith Huntley and his wife Felicia, Dumfries; his daughter, Zetra and her husband Arnold Baptise, Stuttgart, Germany; a brother, Richard Huntley and his wife Ola, Atlanta; his grandchildren, Lyniece Mitchell, Cincinnati; Brian Morris, Orlando, Fla.; Gregory Morris, Buffalo; Latonya and her husband Paul Hughes, Forest, Miss.; Danita and her husband Paul Bowman, Atlanta; James Huntley and his wife Marlena, Atlanta; Lumari Amber Collins, Akron, Ohio; Marshaun Borden, Buffalo; Jade Baptise, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge; Jalen Baptise, Stuttgart; and Geomyra and her husband Philip Pollard; and Geonel Lewis, George Lewis and Melody Huntley, all Virginia; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Besides his wife, Shirley Huntley, he was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Essie Huntley; his daughters, Marjorie Borden and Cynthia Huntley; and a son, Aaron.
