NEWTOWN, Pa. – Margaret L. Hlas Donahue, a resident for five years of Chandler Hall in Newtown, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 20, 2012. She was 92.
Margaret married Robert L. Donahue in 1941 in Farrell. His military commitment took them to California, Texas, Arizona and Michigan before moving in 1946 to Markham, Ill., where they raised five children.
Margaret loved to sew, make hats and knit. She also enjoyed bowling, golf and snow skiing.
She was a regular performer in plays in a community theater group in Markham. In 1979, they moved to Springfield, Ill.
After her children were grown, Margaret was a volunteer at St. John’s Hospital, Sojourn Thrift Shop, and Avenue Thrift Shop in Springfield.
She was a devoted Catholic and an active parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Church in Springfield.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her son, Martin.
She is survived by her four daughters, Peggie Lawton and her husband LeRoy, Craig, Colo.; Karen Beauvais and her husband Mix, Steamboat Springs, Colo.; Susie Malinsky and her husband Greg, Murrells Inlet, S.C.; and Kathleen Parry and her husband John, Newtown.
Margaret’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
