Michael Thomas of Hermitage, passed away at 6:25 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2012, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, after a brief illness. He was 91.
Mr. Thomas was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Numine, Pa., to Michael and Mary Farbar Thomas.
Michael worked as a fitter for the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. 41 years until his retirement in 1983.
On Feb. 1, 1950, he married the former Margaret Byknish, who passed away Nov. 9, 2008.
Michael was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps.
As a member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, he was involved in various church activities. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, also Hermitage; the Slovak Home, Farrell; and American Carpatho-Russian Citizens and Social Club, Sharon. Michael also belonged to AARP and Sharon Westinghouse Retirees Association.
He liked gardening, golf and bowling and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Michael is survived by his two sons, Michael J. Thomas, Hermitage; and Edward J. Thomas and his wife Rebecca, Streetsboro, Ohio; three grandchildren, Brian Thomas, Melissa Thomas and Gabrielle Thomas; and two great-grandchildren, Griffin Thomas and Jameson Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Thomas; mother, Mary Thomas; wife, Margaret Thomas; four sisters, Ann Pishko, Mary Polochak, Betty Anton and Sue Weller; and brother, John Thomas.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Michael’s caregivers at Juniper Village at the Shenango Inn, Sharon, and Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage.

Service: Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. Friday (5-18-12) in St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, with the Rev. John Cuccaro, pastor, officiating. Panachida will be held at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
Interment: St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Hermitage.
