A memorial service will be held Friday for Joseph P. “Josie Desmond” Vanord of 360 S. Irvine Ave., Sharon. He passed away at 12:41 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, in his residence. He was 46.
He was born Feb. 25, 1964, in Sharon, a son of Jack Vanord and Rosemary Keifer.
He graduated from Youngstown State University with a bachelor’s degree in cosmetology.
Joseph was of the Christian faith. He was a female impersonator and went by the stage name of Josie Desmond. Most of all, he loved spending time with his friends and family.
Survivors include: his father, Jack Vanord, Pensacola, Fla.; a niece, Lydia Smith-Neely, Masury; an aunt, Lillian Bayer, Hermitage; a cousin, Michael Bayer, Sharon; and a lifelong friend, Duane Smitley, Masury.
Besides his mother, Joseph was preceded in death by a grandmother, Kathryn Kiefer; an uncle, George Kiefer; and an aunt, Evelyn McQuilken.
