Jeannette Irvine of Greenville, passed away at 2:41 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an illness. She was 85 years old.
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Proverbs 31: 28-29.
Mrs. Irvine was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Greenville to her parents, Harold and Pearl Hills Landfried.
She graduated in 1943 from the former Penn High School, Greenville, and on Jan. 12, 1945, married her husband Clifford Irvine, who preceded her in death in 1997.
As a very active member of Hillside Presbyterian Church of Greenville, Mrs, Irvine was a deacon, a member of the church’s quilting club and the church’s women’s circle.
Mrs. Irvine worked part-time for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier and was a member of the Rural Letter Carrier’s Association. She also belonged to Mercer County Voter’s Hall of Fame for more than 50 years of voting in every election.
Her true joy in life was loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Irvine is survived by: her children, John Irvine and his wife Cheryl, Seneca, Pa.; William Irvine and his wife Mary Jo, Greenville; Carol Laymon and her husband Allen, Hartville, Ohio; and Nancy Blauser and her husband the Rev. Dennis Blauser, Hermitage; a brother, the Rev. Mark Landfried and his wife Marge, Murrysville, Pa.; and a sister, Barbara Hill and her husband Robert, Greenville.
She also leaves 12 grandchildren, Dionis Blauser, Esq.; Major William Blauser and his wife Tahnee; the Rev. Johanna Baker and her husband Shawn; Erin Herald and her husband Joshua; Wesley Blauser; Dr. Andrew Laymon; Michael Laymon; Dr. Darrell Irvine and his wife Jennifer; Douglas Irvine and his friend Heather; Beth Smith and her husband Daniel; Jason Irvine and his wife Kelly; and Maggie Irvine; and 12 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Christopher, Anna Marie, Abby and Cody Blauser; Thomas, Catherine and Tanner Irvine; Natalie Laymon, Olivia Smith, Emily Baker and Madison Herald.
Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of Hillside Presbyterian Church, 2 N. High St., Greenville, PA 16125.
Calling hours: Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today (7-26-10) in BAIRD FUNERAL HOME, 14 Louisa Ave., Greenville.
Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday (7-27-10) in Hillside Presbyterian Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Aland D. Smith, pastor, officiating.
Burial: Will follow at Delaware Cemetery.
