William Clarence Miles

Letter carrier, Navy vet was active in lodges

A funeral service will be held Saturday (3-16-13) for William Clarence Miles, of 995 Dalton Ave., Hermitage. He passed away at 3:38 p.m. Saturday (3-9-13) at O’Brien Memorial Health Care Center, Masury after an extended illness. He was 83.

Mr. Miles was born Sept. 18, 1929 in Pardoe, Pa., a son of Edward Theodore and Estalee Gayle Lynch Miles.

He was a 1947 graduate of Grove City High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.

He was a member of Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Sharon.

Bill worked as a letter carrier at U.S. Post Office for 31 years. In his younger years, he worked for Howe Coffee Co., Grove City.

Bill was master of former Lodge 250 and a member of Kedron Lodge 389, West Middlesex, both Free and Accepted Masons and a member of the National Camping Travelers Association. Bill enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, NASCAR racing and watching all Pittsburgh sporting events.

He was the husband of Grace I. Temple Miles, whom he married on July 3, 1953. She survives at home.

Also surviving are: two daughters, Jenny Miles of Fontana, Calif., Barbara Johnson and her husband, David, Hermitage; son, William H. Miles and his wife, Patty, of Aaronsburg, Pa.; four grandchildren: Sarah and Kyle Miles, and Jason and Amanda Johnson; and a brother, Donald Miles and his wife, Debra, of Geneva, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Sally Hughes.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m., Friday (3-15-13), at HAROLD W. STEVENSON FUNERAL HOME, 264 E.State St., Sharon, with a Masonic service at 6:45 p.m. provided by Kedron Lodge 389, West Middlesex.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday (3-16-13) at the funeral home with Rev.Terry Mann, pastor, Covenant Presbyterian Church, officiating. Military Honors at the funeral home provided by the Hickory VFW Post 6166.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
