NEW GALILEE, Beaver County — Wayne E. Kennedy of Moravia Road, North Beaver Township, New Galilee, passed away at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, in his residence after an extended illness. He was 87.
Born Aug. 16, 1922, in Darlington, Beaver County, Mr. Kennedy was a son of Edwin and Helen Sheerer Kennedy.
Wayne was a lifelong farmer and retired from Babcock & Wilcox, where he was a pipefitter in the welding-fitting department in Koppel, Beaver County.
As an active member of Moravia Presbyterian Church, Wampum, Beaver County, Mr. Kennedy served as an elder, former deacon, trustee, Clerk of Session and Sunday school teacher.
He was a decorated veteran of the Army, serving in World War II.
Wayne was a member of American Legion Post 749 in Wampum; Free and Accepted Masons Meridian Lodge 411 in Enon Valley, Lawrence County; Scottish Rite’s New Castle Consistory; and the Mohawk Area Church Association. He was active with Project Hope and the Heifer Project.
He particularly enjoyed time spent with his church family.
Mr. Kennedy was married for 59 years to Edna Innes Kennedy, who passed away May 30, 2006.
Survivors include: five children, Linda and her husband Jeff Luce, Hermitage; Ed Kennedy and his wife Diana, North Beaver Township; Beth and her husband Bob Basile, Duncannon, Pa.; and Connie and her husband David Anderson; and John Kennedy and his wife Connie, all North Beaver Township; a sister, Lucy and her husband Bob McKinley, also North Beaver Township; and 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
