Estella Zuhosky Karsonovich, formerly of Mercer Avenue, Sharpsville, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, after an extended illness. She was 84.
Mrs. Karsonovich was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Ralpton, Pa., a daughter of John and Sophie Kobrya Zuhosky.
She moved to the area in the 1930s and was a 1945 alumna of Brookfield High School.
Estella graduated from the former Paramount Beauty School in Youngstown and was a cosmetologist for 45 years. She retired in 1990 after having been employed by Elite Beauty Shop, Home of Hairstyling, Pompa’s Beauty Salon and Charlene and Co.
A devout Catholic and a woman of strong faith, Estella was an active member of St. Adalbert’s Church, Farrell, and its Infant of Prague Guild, Altar and Rosary Society and the Arch Confraternity of the Holy Spirit.
She was also a member of the Blue Army-Knight of the Immaculata; the Gold Star Wives of America Inc.; Polish National Alliance Post 2630; the auxiliary unit of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6404, Sharpsville; and the former Mercer County VFW Auxiliary, for which she served as president.
Her husband, Joseph Karsonovich, whom she married July 5, 1947, passed away April 8, 1971.
Surviving are: two daughters, Stephanie Romine and her husband William, Hempfield Township; and Janie Young and her husband Ed, Hadley; a son, Joseph Karsonovich, Columbus, Ohio; two granddaughters, Valerie Sarvis; and Barbara Shirk and her husband Thomas, all Sharpsville; two great-grandsons, Jarrett and Casey Pitts; a sister, Josephine Romain, West Middlesex; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Estella was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Florence Fedorko, Helen Kosiba and Mary Carrier; and two brothers, John and Walter Zuhosky.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Adalbert Church, 1035 Fruit Ave., Farrell, PA 16121; or Heartland Hospice of Hermitage, 3871 E. State St., Hermitage, PA 16148.
