Charles L. Porsch of Hermitage, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, in his home after an extended illness. He was 84.
Mr. Porsch was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Sharon, the son of Albert G. and Mary Ann Baer Porsch.
He was a 1947 Hickory High School graduate.
On June 21, 1950, Charles wed Mary Ruth Minnick in St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, Sharon, with the Rev. John H. Reese officiating.
During Chuck’s 45 years as a mechanic, he also drove school buses for Mercer and West Middlesex schools and was transportation manager for West Middlesex School District for seven years.
Always a loyal Cleveland Indians fan, he greatly enjoyed his 1999 guided tour of the stadium and his visit to Cooperstown.
Charles served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from 1951-53, stationed in Japan and Korea. His company was at the 38th parallel when the war ended.
Surviving besides his wife of 62 years are two sons, Gerald “Jerry” L. Porsch who was his dad’s five-year in-home caregiver, Hermitage; and Brian E. Porsch and his wife Kathleen, Hermitage; two grandsons, Adam G. Porsch and his wife Jessica, Westerville, Ohio; and Matthew E. Porsch, Hermitage.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Orin, Harry, Raymond and Jay Porsch.
