A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Michael D. Gasparich of Sharon. He passed away at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, in Pulaski Township, after an extended illness. He was 54.
Mr. Gasparich was born June 16, 1958, in Sharon, a son of Anthony F. and Margaret Jean Battyanyi Gasparich.
He was a 1976 graduate of Sharon High School. Following high school, Michael went on to graduate from Youngstown State University with a bachelor’s degree in finance.
Michael was employed as finance director for the City of Sharon for more than 10 years. He also held the position of assistant county controller of Mercer County.
Mr. Gasparich was of the Catholic faith. He was a former member of Sons of the American Legion.
Michael loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, golfing and camping. He also found enjoyment in playing guitar and raising animals.
Surviving are his mother, Margaret Jean Gasparich, Sharon; and his companion of 22 years, Debra Costa, Pulaski Township. Also surviving are Debra’s two children, Courtney Jean Costa, Sharon; and Thomas James Costa, New Bedford; three sisters, Susan Adams and her husband Doug, Greenwood, Ind.; Judith David and her husband James, Grove City; and Constance Right and her husband Rick, Ephrata, Pa.; and a brother, Anthony Gasparich and his wife Margaret, Lititz, Pa.
Michael is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom adored him.
He was preceded in death by his father.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Lawrence County, Pearson Mill Road, New Castle, PA 16101.
