BUTLER – Thomas J. Cooper Sr. of 210 Cedar St., New Castle, died Monday afternoon (3-18-13) in Butler Memorial Hospital. He was 82.
Mr. Cooper was born Jan. 14, 1931, in Slippery Rock to Howard J. Cooper Sr. and Lottie Belle Sankey Cooper.
He graduated from the former Harrisville High School.
Mr. Cooper retired as a shear operator from Youngstown Sheet & Tube.
An Army veteran, he served as a sergeant first class in Korea and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Neshannock Post 315, New Castle; and belonged to American Legion Post 474, Zelienople.
He was of the Protestant faith.
His wife, the former Catherine Cregg, whom he married Sept. 25, 1954, died in 2003.
Surviving are his children, Mrs. Gerry (Dorry) Sankey, Grove City; Howard J. Cooper Jr., Chicago; and William T. Cooper, Panama City, Fla.; a sister, Pauline Ward, Plano, Texas; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rodney E. Cooper; and four sisters, Ruth Eakin, Mildred Halasy, Betty Jane Cooper and Leona Trufley.

Interment: Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.
