A memorial service will be held March 22 for Helen Wonsettler of Grove City. She passed away peacefully at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in her home at the age of 92.
A native of Washington, Pa., Mrs. Wonsettler was born Aug. 30, 1920, to Curtis and Julia Aulency Burns.
She graduated in 1942 as a registered nurse from Washington Hospital School of Nursing.
In November of that year, she married Dr. Donald E. Wonsettler prior to his deployment with the U.S. Medical Corps to Southeast Asia. On his return in 1946, they moved to Grove City, where he set up his medical practice.
Helen was active in local community affairs, serving on the boards of the Visiting Nurses Association, the former Grove City Hospital Auxiliary and the Women’s Club, and as a volunteer at the American Red Cross Blood Bank and blood pressure clinics.
She was a member of the Grove City Country Club Ladies Golf Association for more than 50 years and enjoyed her Tuesdays and Thursdays spent on the course with friends.
She was active in several bridge groups and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Sue Conaty and her husband Bill, Florida and New Hampshire; her granddaughters, Kelly Conaty; and Kimberly Hollely and her husband David, all New York; her daughter-in-law, Pamm Wonsettler, Wisconsin; and her granddaughter, Amy Snrka and her husband Ryan and their daughter Maylin, all also Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her son, Thomas; and her grandson, Nathan Wonsettler.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
