Carl R. Johnson of Sandy Lake, passed away at 9:22 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after an extended illness. He was 63.
Born April 4, 1948, in Erie, Mr. Johnson was a son of Edwin C. and Margaret “Marge” Kubicki Johnson.
He was a 1966 graduate of Lakeview High School and attended Edinboro State College for two years.
In his early years, he worked at the former R.D. Werner Company of Greenville and then as a sales associate for Slater-Ford Mercury and Vintage Ford & Mercury for more than 34 years. After it closed, he was a sales associate for Walker Chevrolet of Sandy Lake for the past six years.
Carl was a life member of Sandy Lake Sportsmen’s Club, where he had served as president and secretary and was currently vice president.
He loved shooting skeet and was a member of the Sandy Lake Skeet Team and a life member of the National Skeet Association. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association.
“Carl will be greatly missed by his wife and family. He was well-respected by the people of Sandy Lake and Stoneboro. He found great pleasure in his profession of being a car salesman. His love of the Sandy Lake Sportsmen’s Club will live on forever. Carl greatly appreciated the Dialysis Center at Grove City Medical Center. They took extra care of him and if it wasn’t for their care, he said he would have not gone through his dialysis.”
He is survived by: his wife, the former Lavina J. Elmore, whom he married Aug. 6, 1988, at home; his father, Grove City; a sister, Alice Thompson and her husband Clair, Mercer; three brothers, Roy M. Johnson and his wife Kathleen, Brookfield; Lee E. Johnson and his wife Cindy, Grove City; and Mark A. Johnson, Toledo, Ohio; five nieces, Tracy Johnson, Jessica Thompson, Stacey Allan, Vickey Lilak and Emma Johnson; and five nephews, Michael Thompson, Bryson Edmonds, Carter Spatara, Prestin Allan and Nick Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Carol Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to Sandy Lake Sportsmen’s Club, Box 275, Stoneboro, PA 16153.
