James A. Buckley of 1514 Jackson Center-Polk Road, Mineral Township, Venango County (Stoneboro), died at 5:25 p.m. Saturday (7-24-10) in his home after an extended illness. He was 71.
Mr. Buckley was born May 31, 1939, in Mercer County to Albert D. and Delsie B. McNeish Buckley.
He was a 1957 graduate of Lakeview High School, Sandy Lake Township, and a graduate of Lincoln School of Welding, Cleveland.
In earlier years, he worked for General American Transportation Corp.’s former Masury plant and T. Bruce Campbell of West Middlesex. Mr. Buckley retired from National Fuel Gas Co. in 1997 after 27 years of service at Henderson Station, where he was a station engineer.
A veteran of the Marine Corps, he served during peacetime.
Jim was of the Protestant faith.
He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed attending the local dirt track races to watch his son, Andy, race. He also enjoyed the many dogs that shared his life through the years.
His wife of 47 years, the former Bertha A. “Cookie” Spence, whom he married Feb. 12, 1962, survives at home.
Also surviving are: two sons, Mark J. Buckley and Andy J. Buckley and his wife Sherri, all Stoneboro; four grandchildren, Rachael E. Buckley and Cody L. Buckley, both Polk; and Dalton J. Buckley and Cole J. Buckley, both Stoneboro; a great-grandson, Brandt McAfoose; and a sister, Ethel Higbee and her husband James, Pittsfield, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Evelyn Graham and Esther Kasbee; and two brothers, John Buckley and George Buckley.
