DOVER, Del. – A funeral service will be held Monday for Clair Daniel “Dan” Buckley of 12 N. Launden Lane, Camden, formerly of Grove City. He passed away peacefully early Wednesday afternoon, March 13, 2013, in Kent General Hospital, Dover, after a three-year illness. He was 74.
Known as “Dan” by family and friends, Mr. Buckley was born May 29, 1938, in Worth Township to Ralph Daniel and Helen Louise Jamison Buckley.
Dan married Sarah “Sally” L. Kerr on Feb. 15, 1958.
Dan and Sally attended Wesley United Methodist Church, Dover; and formerly worshipped at Grace United Methodist Church in Grove City.
He attended Grove City High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1956.
Dan enlisted early in the Air Force in 1955, becoming a career military man and serving until his retirement in 1976. He served as an aircraft mechanic and later became a flight engineer on C141 and C5 airplanes and was a flight examiner and flight simulator instructor. Dan was a Vietnam veteran and served two tours in the Philippines.
Following his service retirement, he was an industrial electrical engineer. He then worked as a rural mail carrier for 15 years for the U.S. Postal Service in Grove City.
Dan was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association; Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1579 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 519, both Grove City; and American Legion Post 2, Delaware; and formerly Post 220, Grove City.
He enjoyed playing cards and games with his family, fishing, boating and traveling in his recreational vehicle.
Dan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sally, at home; five children, Kelly Devine and her husband Tom, Dover; Dana Buford and her husband Mark, Bakersfield, Calif.; Kim Yurchison and her husband Tom, Dillsburg, Pa.; Daniel W. Buckley and his fiancée Donna Kimble, Dover; and Brenda Shaffer and her husband Mark, Franktown, Va.; eight grandchildren, Denise and Melissa Devine, Sean Simmons and his wife LeighAnn, Steven Yurchison, Brett and Stephanie Buckley, and Nicholas and Justin Shaffer; a great-granddaughter, Illa Jane Simmons; and a sister, Patricia Wilson and her husband Jim, Northport, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Michael T. Devine.

Interment: Crestview Memorial Park Inc., Pine Township, with military honors.
