Donald S. “Tex” McCann of 315 Greenville-Sharon Road, West Salem Township, passed away Wednesday afternoon (3-13-13) in his residence. He was 83.
Mr. McCann was born June 29, 1929, in Fredonia to Urban P. and Martha Schistle McCann.
He was a graduate of St. Michael High School, Greenville.
Mr. McCann was employed for 36 years as a train engineer at the former Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad Co., Greenville, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Church, Greenville. His other memberships included Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374, Hempfield Township; and Knights of Columbus Fitzmartin Council 1446, American Legion Post 140 and the Italian Home Club, all Greenville; and Mercer County Antique Power Association.
Tex received his pilot’s license in 1954 and owned his own plane at the Greenville Airport for more than 30 years.
His other interests included hunting, fishing, gardening, riding motorcycles and snowmobiling. He was a member of the Pymatuning Trail Blazers.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict from 1950-54.
His wife, the former Alta R. “Addie” Schreckengost, whom he married in 1969, passed away in 2002.
Surviving are a brother, Gerald R. McCann, Transfer; and three sisters, Dolores Rinella, Sharpsville; Louise McKnight, Clark; and Lorine Miles, Ellwood City.
Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, William McCann, Joseph McCann, John McCann, Frank McCann, Regis McCann, Clifford McCann and Robert McCann; and four sisters, Patricia Kulka, Irene Reash, Marie Swartz and Eleanor Metelsky.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Monday (3-18-13) in St. Michael’s Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Christopher Barnes, parochial vicar, as celebrant.
Burial: In St. Michael’s Cemetery, Greenville, with committal service and military honors rendered by the Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374, Hempfield Township.
