Funeral service will be Tuesday for Grover H. Elliott of 16 Stone Ridge Blvd., Hermitage, formerly of Mercer. He passed away at 6 p.m. Thursday (8-16-12) in UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. He was 88.
He was born July 28, 1924, in what was Hickory Township to Alex Elliott and Alice Smith.
He married Catherine “Kay” Willis on Sept. 21, 1946.
He retired from ITT Reznor as a traffic coordinator after 24 years.
He was of the Presbyterian faith.
A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of the Mercer American Legion
The 1943 graduate of Mercer High School was an avid golfer and tennis player into his 80s, and an avid poker and bridge player.
He attended a jewelry and watch school in Pittsburgh.
He and his wife spent the winter months in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., for the past 23 years.
Surviving are: his wife, at home; two daughters, Susan, wife of Donald Bonner, Hermitage; and Karen, wife of Richard Schook, Transfer; a son, Doug Elliott and his wife Holly, Reading, Pa.; seven grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Charlotte Ringer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 59 N. Crescent Drive, Hermitage 16148; or the American Legion, 100 E. Butler St., Mercer 16137.

Burial: Mercer Citizens Cemetery, Mercer. Military honors at the cemetery with the Hickory VFW Honor Guard.
