Accused bike thief waives hearing, greets officer

SHARON — Prior to waiving his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday, Saquan Baldwin addressed the policeman he allegedly spit on and threatened Nov. 5.

“How’re you doing today, officer?” Baldwin asked Sharon Patrolman Marc Adamo while they were each seated at the table in front of District Judge Dennis M. Songer’s bench.

“So you’re going to try and make these charges stick, huh?” Baldwin said.

Baldwin, 21, of 923 Fruit Ave., Farrell, was arrested about 1 a.m. for allegedly breaking a basement window and stealing a bicycle in the 300 block of Jefferson Avenue.

He struggled with police, had to be pepper sprayed and then used racial slurs at Adamo and threatened him and his wife.

“You didn’t like it when I talked about your wife,” he said before police Sgt. Dan Lesheski told Baldwin “shut your mouth.”

Baldwin agreed to allow the charges against him to proceed to common pleas court.

As Baldwin left the courtroom, he again spoke to Adamo.

“Have a nice day, officer,” Baldwin said.

Baldwin is charged with felony burglary, aggravated harassment by a prisoner, institutional vandalism, ethnic intimidation, resisting arrest, making terroristic threats, theft, receiving stolen properly, loitering and prowling at night, possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.

Assistant District Attorney William J. Moder III said county court would hear a request to lower Baldwin’s bond so he can work inside Mercer County Jail, where’s he’s being held on a parole detainer.

Moder said there is no potential plea deal for Baldwin.
