SHARPSVILLE —
A Sharpsville woman accused of leaving her two children home alone while she made a middle-of-the-night cigarette run now is facing a charge of endangering the welfare of children.
Police were called to the home of Kristi L. Junk, 34, of 1228 Pierce Ave., at 1:32 a.m. Aug. 30. Neighbors called 911 to report a child outside “yelling for his mother.”
As police arrived, Junk was returning home, parking her vehicle in the driveway. Her 8-year-old son was “very upset,” police said, when he awoke and didn’t find his mother at home.
Her other child, a 2-year-old girl, was inside the house and also awake and crying, police said.
Junk told police she left the children alone to go to a convenience store in Hermitage to buy cigarettes. On the way to the store she said her car started to overheat, so she turned around and returned home.
Neighbors told police the children have been left alone previously.
