FARRELL —
An 18-year-old Farrell man is in jail on aggravated assault charges in connection with a shooting during a traffic stop July 31 in the 1000 block of Emerson Avenue.
Jashaad Braquan Coleman, whose last known address is 114 Spearman Ave., was arrested there at 2:54 p.m. Wednesday, according to Southwest Mercer County Regional Police.
Coleman is charged with four counts of aggravated assault and one count of carrying a firearm without a license in connection with the gunplay, which happened at 2:10 a.m. July 31.
Southwest police had stopped a vehicle driven by Khiry Whiteside in the 100 block of Emerson, and Coleman was on a bicycle nearby and fired at police, according to court papers.
Coleman is a “known associate” of Whiteside and Torlando Hopson, who was also in the vehicle that police stopped for having expired insurance.
Police recovered three shell casings from the area where the shots were thought to be fired, according to court papers.
Coleman was arraigned Wednesday by District Judge Ronald E. Antos, Farrell, who set bail at $150,000.
The shooting is one of several recent incidents involving gunplay in Farrell.
Authorities are also investigating a gun fight involving several people on either side of the 800 block of Roemer Boulevard at midnight Aug. 3, according to police.
The people had scattered when police arrived, but those involved are believed to be the same ones who were involved in the shooting of a Sharon man in a Masury bar parking lot early Saturday morning, according to Southwest Police Chief Riley Smoot.
Dana Borders, 30, Sharon, suffered a non-life-threatening wound after a burst of gunfire at 2:33 a.m. outside Rock A Billie’s bar, 759 Brookfield Ave., according to Brookfield police.
Borders was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. He was treated and then taken to Trumbull County Jail, Warren, because he was wanted on an unrelated warrant.
Jail officials said Saturday the warrant stemmed from an earlier driving-under-suspension charge.
