Nine Mercer High School Speech Team members won awards as they opened the 2009-10 forensics season at the 25th annual Pittsburgh North Catholic Invitational.
The competed against more than 275 speakers from schools throughout western Pennsylvania.
Mercer placed second out of 28 schools in speech sweepstakes and placed at last one speaker in the top five of six of the seven categories, winning first-place honors in three of the categories.
Winners were Jennfier Knauff, Andrew Hedglin, Kyle Grabigel, Teresa Morin, Ethan Duncan, Zoe Anderson and Joe Ligo.
