UPDATE: Donation allows agency to replace snow plow

FARRELL — Two weeks ago, Joe Flecher arrived for work to find that the Prince of Peace Center’s snow plow was missing from the parking lot on Darr Avenue in Farrell.

But thanks to the generosity of a local attorney and a social services organization in Youngstown, they will have enough money to buy a new one.

Flecher, Prince of Peace’s executive director, had urged anyone with any information to come forward so they could get their stolen property back.

“We weren’t looking for a handout,” he said Friday.

There hasn’t been any new information brought forth, but a few people read about the theft and decided they would donate enough money to Prince of Peace to buy a new snow plow.

The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation and Sharon attorney Jarrett Whalen donated $500 each Friday, enough to cover the $1,000 deductible that Prince of Peace’s insurance company was asking for.

“I saw an article in The Herald about it (and decided to help out),” Whalen said.

Deborah Grinstein, the endowment director for the Jewish federation, said their contribution came from their “Helping Hand” program, which was created by contributions from an anonymous donor who asked them to use the money to benefit those who have experienced setbacks.

“It was some of the people on our staff (who live in the Shenango Valley) who first shook me and said, ‘Hey, did you see this story?’ ” she said.

The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation provides social services and has community centers in the Shenango and Mahoning valleys.
