Sexual encounter in front of boys brings charges

SHARPSVILLE — Two people face charges after they had sex in front of two juveniles last week in a Sharpsville apartment, police said.

Giovanne York, 25, of Warren, Ohio, and Renee Sorg, 20, of 27 E. Shenango St., Sharpsville, were charged with corruption of minors and York was also charged with indecent assault, police said.

York and Ms. Sorg had sex at her apartment between Nov. 16 and 20 while two juveniles watched and one videotaped it, police said.

Afterward, York approached one of the boys and hit him twice in the lower back with his genitals, police said.

The pair were released after posting bond.

Man gets work release in assault, shooting case

PINE TOWNSHIP — A Pine Township man who police said beat up a woman, fired in her direction with a semi-automatic rifle, and attacked a man who came to her aid will spend 1 month to 1 year in jail.

Gary Dean Koebler, 56, of 992 Stevenson Road, pleaded guilty to simple assault and reckless endangerment and was sentenced Monday by Mercer County Common Pleas Court President Judge Francis J. Fornelli.

Koebler will be on work release and if he works every day he is able, he will be released after serving a minimum sentence, Fornelli said.

Koebler was supported in the courtroom by the woman he attacked, who had forgiven him, according to defense attorney Jack Cline. His boss also attended.

Fornelli warned Koebler to get counseling and to stop fighting.

Police said Koebler punched the woman during a heated argument, though Cline said it was an open-handed slap. He also fired into the yard as she fled the house with his SKS rifle — a Soviet-made rifle that fires the same ammunition used in an AK-47 assault rifle.

Koebler punched a young man who came to the woman’s aid and putting him into a head lock. The young man fought back, hitting Koebler several times, police said. He was not charged and did not attend the sentencing.

Battery-filled sock attack nets woman jail time

FARRELL — A Hermitage woman was sentenced to 2 months to 2 years minus 1 day in Mercer County Jail for hitting another woman with a sock loaded with batteries.

Nakwanza M. Davis, 23, of 1420 Parke Drive, on Oct. 13 pleaded guilty to simple assault. Southwest Mercer County Regional police said that on March 14, Ms. Davis waited for Linda White to open her door at 707 Lee Ave., Farrell, and immediately attacked her with the sock.

At her sentencing, Ms. Davis said she was trying to defend herself from Ms. White after the other woman came at her. She claimed she punched her in the face and then clubbed her in the back of the head with the sock once. After that, she said, the batteries fell out of a hole in the sock.

Ms. Davis said she carries the sock with her for protection at night.

But Ms. White told police that Ms. Davis came to her door upset because her boyfriend had told her Ms. White shorted him $8 on a drug deal. Fornelli asked if Ms. Davis was acting as an “enforcer” and Ms. White said she was.

According to Ms. White, Ms. Davis hit her twice in the face with the loaded sock and once in the back of the head.

Ms. Davis said she doesn’t have a boyfriend.

Police brought the short anklet sock to sentencing court, and said they found it without batteries inside, and with a hole in it. Three AA batteries and two AAA batteries were found at the scene.
