SHENANGO VALLEY — The last of seven men charged in the drug deal and robbery that led to the shooting death of a Sharon teen turned himself in Wednesday.
Toney A. Bonner II, 20, of 677 Baldwin Ave., Sharon, was arraigned on a charge of robbery Wednesday afternoon by District Judge Dennis M. Songer.
Bonner and three other men are charged with robbery and three others face charges of drug conspiracy in connection with the shootout early Nov. 6 that killed John B. Hosey III, 18, of 422 Meek St. in the 800 block of Wallis Avenue in Sharon near the Farrell line.
Police said Rashod M. Brown, Raymond L. Raver Sr., Bonner and Hosey surrounded a minivan carrying people who wanted to buy a pound of marijuana for $1,500.
Brown pointed a shotgun at the van and at least one person in the van fired a gun, police said, and Brown returned fire.
Hosey was struck twice in the torso and pronounced dead shortly after at the hospital at Sharon Regional Health System. No one has been charged with firing the shot that killed him.
Ashley McNulty, 20, and her husband Mark McNulty, 21, both of West Middlesex, received superficial gunshot wounds, police said.
After shots broke out, Mrs. McNulty drove away from the scene and her husband tossed a handgun into a ravine and the other passengers ran.
Police on Saturday recovered another handgun used in the exchange from the Shenango River near the Walnut Street bridge in Sharpsville.
The McNultys have not been charged in the case, but passengers Christopher L. Swogger and John Dunder were charged with drug conspiracy. Swogger had $1,500 cash on him when he was arrested Nov. 6 in Hubbard, police said.
Alexander Lee, the man police said helped set up the deal and plan the robbery, is also charged with drug conspiracy and Hosey’s brother Terry J. Greene was charged with robbery. The incident happened in front of Greene’s home and police said he had drugs to sell.
Bonner was taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $30,000 bond.
Also in jail after failing to post bond or on parole detainers are: Brown, 30, of Warren, Ohio, who is also known as “Batman”; Dunder, 21, of 100 Ridge Ave. Apartment 6, Sharpsville; Greene, 28, of 833 Wallis Ave., Sharon; Lee, 28, of 26 Shenango Blvd., Farrell; Raver, 27, of 813 Spearman Ave., Farrell; Swogger, 22, of 364 Ellsworth St., Sharon; and McNulty.
A neighbor, Bryan A. Hall, 22, of 818 New Castle Ave., Sharon, had charges of tampering with evidence and prowling at night held to court last week. He’s accused of knocking over a garbage can to hide the shotgun police believe Brown used in the incident.
