Divers find gun in Shenango River

2 men in custody on robbery charges

SHARON — Two more men wanted for taking part in the Nov. 6 robbery that led to a shootout and the death of a Sharon teen were caught over the weekend and another gun used in the crime was recovered, police said.

Rashod M. Brown, 30, of Warren, Ohio, was arrested at 10:05 p.m. Saturday after police found him hiding under a bed at 322 Fourth Ave., Sharon, police said.

Brown, who is also known as “Batman,” was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Charged with robbery and eight counts of aggravated assault, Brown is the man who fired a shotgun into the van carrying four people who came to the 800 block of Wallis Avenue to buy a pound of marijuana, police said.

People in the van fired back and John B. Hosey III, 18, of 422 Meek Street, was shot twice in the torso.

Raymond L. Raver Sr., 27, of 813 Spearman Ave., Farrell, turned himself in on a warrant for robbery Monday morning at the Southwest Mercer County Regional police station, Sharon police said.

On Saturday afternoon, Sharon police said their investigation led them to the Shenango River in Sharpsville, where a dive team from the Mahoning County Sheriff’s office recovered a gun from the water near Walnut Street. Sharpsville police assisted at the scene, as well.

Police said the gun was used in the “melee” on Wallis but said ballistic tests would determine if it was the weapon that fired the bullets that killed Hosey.

Police wouldn’t say whom they believe the gun belongs to.

As of Monday, eight people have been charged with robbery or drug conspiracy for their role in the events that led to the shootout.

Police have a warrant for the arrest of Toney A. Bonner II, 20, who they said is the last of the “main actors” in the incident. Police said there may be more charges in the case in the future and that “there’s a very good possibility that charges will be added or amended” against those already in custody.

According to court documents:

Alexander Lee, 28, of Farrell, contacted Terry J. Greene, 28, of 833 Wallis Ave. and said he knew “a white boy” who wanted to buy a pound of marijuana.

Lee proposed robbing them, but Greene told police that he had the drugs to sell. Greene said he told Lee there was no way to rob four people in a minivan and to forget about it.

But Lee, Brown, Raver, Bonner and Hosey said they wanted the money.

Greene told police that he told his brother, “Sit down. You ain’t doing no robbery. We don’t need this money.”

But Lee went out the front door and the other four, including Brown who was armed with a 12-gauge shotgun went out the back.

Greene told police he looked out the front window and saw Brown pointing the camouflage-colored shotgun at the van and saw “sparks” inside the vehicle and then Brown fired three rounds into the van.

Then Greene ran outside and was informed that Hosey had been hit and he stayed with his brother until paramedics arrived. Brown handed the gun to Bonner, who left the scene.
