SLIPPERY ROCK — State police say two young men died and two others were injured in a single-car crash in Butler County.
Police said the four were in a car that was apparently heading west on state Route 488 at high speed when it hit a utility pole at about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday in Muddy Creek Township. All four were thrown from the vehicle, and police say they do not know who was driving.
Eighteen-year-old Corey Jones of Slippery Rock and 18-year-old Aaron Rensel of Portersville were pronounced dead at the scene. Two Butler residents, 20-year-old Kirk Hines and 18-year-old Justin Angerett, were were flown to Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Angerett was in stable condition Friday.
Hines was later taken to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition Friday.
Angerett, Jones and Rensel are students at Slippery Rock High School; Hines is a Slippery Rock High graduate. Angerett and Rensel are members of the Rockets football team.
