HERMITAGE —
The worst-kept business secret over the past year in the Shenango Valley has been confirmed – Olive Garden wants to build a restaurant next to Kohl’s in Hermitage.
Darden Restaurants Inc., the Orlando, Fla.,-based owner of more than 2,000 restaurants including Olive Gardens, Red Lobsters and Longhorn Steakhouses, has submitted a land development plan to build a 7,659-square-foot eatery on South Hermitage Road, between Burger King and Pizza Hut, according to a report to city commissioners made public Thursday.
Darden submitted the plan for the 1è-acre lot Sept. 10 and city staff members are reviewing it. Hermitage Planning Commission will consider the plan at its Oct. 1 meeting, said city Director of Planning and Development Marcia A. Hirschmann.
The southern entrance to Olive Garden would be directly across the street from the locally owned Chiccarino’s Italian Restaurant.
Levey & Co. of Akron, the developer of the retail development at the Shenango Valley Freeway and South Hermitage Road on which Kohl’s is building a department store, will build the restaurant for Darden.
Kohl’s has started erecting the walls for its store at the site.
The Levey development has two other outparcels, both along the freeway, but no plans for their development have been submitted, Hirschmann said.
