Volant woman dies after 1-car crash in Shenango Township

---- — A Volant man was hurt and his wife died after their car ran off Sharon Road and into a ditch near Hewitt Road in Shenango Township.

Frank E. and Shirley Telesz, both 79, were traveling south on U.S. Route 18 when their car crossed over the left lane and ended up 100 feet off the road, police said.

Telesz, who was driving, was out of the car and disoriented when Southwest Mercer County Regional police arrived on the scene. Shenango Township volunteer firefighters removed Mrs. Telesz from the damaged car.

Police said the couple likely had been wearing seatbelts because the windshield was not broken.

Both were taken by ambulance to UPMC Horizon, Farrell, complaining of chest related injuries, police said Mercer County 911 dispatch said both were flown to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.

A representative of the Pittsburgh Medical Examiner’s Office told police that Mrs. Telesz had died early Wednesday from the chest injuries caused by the accident, police said.
