UPDATE: 2nd woman charged in dragging

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP — An Akron woman is in custody after state police charged her last week with robbery and assault for acting as getaway driver in a theft that led to the dragging of a Prime Outlets employee in 2008.

Asja M. Williams, 21, Akron, is charged with robbery, aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangering, retail theft, and conspiracy before District Judge Lorinda L. Hinch, Mercer.

Police said Ms. Williams acted as driver while Domonique A. Mitchell, 21, also Akron, walked out the door of a Prime Outlets store with a box of shoes.

An employee followed Ms. Mitchell and told her she had to pay for the shoes, police said. Ms. Mitchell got into the car, the employee grabbed the car door, and Ms. Mitchell told the driver to go, police said.

Ms. Williams took off, dragging the employee until she was able to free herself and roll away from the car, police said. The victim hurt her left foot and needed two stitches.

Ms. Mitchell dropped her purse during the crime, police said, and they used it to establish her identity. In December, Ms. Mitchell named Ms. Williams as the getaway driver during plea negotiations.

Ms. Williams is in Mercer County Jail, according to online documents.

Ms. Mitchell still faces charges of robbery, aggravated and simple assault, retail theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy, according to online court documents.
