Township to sell unwanted property at Saturday auction

BROOKFIELD — Those looking for a bargain or something unusual can get a jump-start on holiday shopping at Brookfield Township’s semi-annual auction featuring unclaimed police property, which includes everything from golf clubs and an all-terrain vehicle to a water fountain, a boat motor and two cars confiscated in a drug arrest.

Police Chief Dan Faustino will serve as the auctioneer Saturday morning and said he’s hoping for a large turnout in the garage in the administration building.

He and members of his department have spent the week getting the equipment ready, making sure the dirt bike and the ATV work, booting up used computers - minus the  hard drives - and testing old police radios. Outside, Faustino shows a pile of 16 bicycles, next to a pile of scrap metal. Most of the bicycles were stolen or unclaimed or never reported missing, he said.

Participants should be at the building at 9 a.m to register. The auction starts at 10 a.m. Cash is preferred, Faustino said, and local checks will be considered with proper identification. No credit cards will be accepted.

Any money raised is earmarked for certain funds, he said. Proceeds from items that came from drug arrests must be shared with the Trumbull County prosecutor’s office, he said.

Other items for sale include include a riding lawn mower, scrap metal, a chainsaw, a folding chair, a drill, black boots, a wallet, tools, a VCR,  digital cameras, a Sawzall, a trailer, a power climber, an air compressor, a chain hoist, a dolly, two garbage cans, a gas can, pencil sharpeners, a belt-sander and door mats.
